While sports news for the most part has been
silent as of late two stories came out on Wednesday
concerning two players for the Huskies men's
basketball team.
Freshman Isaiah Stewart first team Pac-12
announced that he is going to enter the
NBA draft. It really wasn't a big surprise
to anyone. Most expected him to leave
before the season started then he had
a better expected season as well.
We should be expecting fellow freshman
Jaden McDaniels to make an announcement
of his intentions to go into the NBA draft
as well.
Sophomore guard Elijah Henry announced
that he is going to look to transfer from
University of Washington men's basketball
program. Not a big surprise in my estimation.
He only averaged about ten minutes a game.
Some of the time was in the final two games
of the season against the Arizona schools where
he played thirty minutes each.
Henry didn't show much far as scoring points;
however, he did show leadership in those two
games. I am not sure why he wasn't given more
playing time when Quade Green became
academically ineligible, /Coach Mike Hopkins
decided to go with freshman Marcus Tsohonis
instead. In fact, the Huskies were planning
to redshirt Tsohonis before Green became
eligible.
Tsohonis showed times of brilliance on the
court but at times his lack of experience
showed as well. I guess hindsight is unpredictable
but it may still have been the best choice to
redshirt Tsohonis anyway. We will know more
during next season how much he may have
matured during this season.
Henry though said he could return to Washington.
I am sure he will talk with Coach Hopkins to
see he fits in. Both guard positions were the
weakest part of the Huskies team Like Tsohonis
they showed signs but would often go out of
sight. we will have to see next season.
