Seattle Mariners first base

As we look for the  lockout to end
and baseball begins  we will  look
at the positions going into spring
training.  We hope for additional
in help by trades and free agency.

Right before the lockout Seattle
Mariners president of baseball
operations and general manager
Jerry  Dipoto said Ty France  will
be the  regular first  baseman. He
he did an outstanding job when
Evan White was hurt and lost for
the season.

Where Evan White  fits on the Mariners
will first begin how  healthy he is and
how he hits  in spring training. White
has struggled at the plate in his limited
action in the major leagues.  White could
begin the  season at triple-A if not on the
big club. Dipoto hinted White  might play
some outfield as well. White is quite
athletically so not a stretch. His defense
likely work in the outfield. In this case he
would be the 4th or 5th outfield. I  could
see him in  center field on occasion. It
will be interesting to see how it unfolds.

Another player who might get action at
first base is Luis Torrens. Last season
when he returned from  triple-A he was
designated hitter for the most part.
Depending  how catching position is
will depend where he plays elsewhere.

The designated hitter most likely  be
be Kyle  Lewis or Mitch Haniger. This
to will depend  on  how healthy  Lewis
is. Haniger at least one game a week
to keep him healthy again for another
season.  We will get more into it when
we get to the outfield. Go M's!
