where Cal Raleigh hit a two run homer
in the first inning. It was his 23rd on
on the season. Cal has been hitting
much better since August. Having an
injury that cost him about a month
had been a disappointing season
like for most of the Mariners.
In the third inning Randy Arozarena
who is one of the Mariners who has
had a good season hit a solo home
run making it 3-0. Unfortunately the
Mariners didn't score anymore runs.
The Mariners haven't won too many
games when scoring three runs or
less.
Bryce Miller who has been struggling
on the mound for the last couple of
months after having a good season
though he did spend a little time on
the injured list. He went five and one-third
inning giving up only four hits however
a run by the Rockies was scored on a
throwing error in the bottom of the
third.
This is where it began to crumble Carlos
Vargas came in the sixth and got the two
remaining outs however pitching again
the 7th he gave up two runs and then
Jose Ferrer came in and surrended
two more runs. Neither team scored
after that. This has been a problem
for the Mariners all season not able
to score more runs when needed
after early in the game. The bullpen
has had issues especially since
July.
Outside of Canzone no other left
handed hitter had a hit against a
lefty. Though he didn't get a hit
Laz Montes had his first start to
face a lefty handed pitcher. Though
he didn't get a hit I am glad he had a
shot. Michael Arroyo started at 2nd
base and batted 7th. He had two
hits in the game. Maybe he is one
of the guys who will play against
a left handed starter next year.
The Mariners have seven games
left on the season. They are six
games out of first place with seven
to go. The Rangers are now in
first place one game ahead of the
Astros.
The Rangers and Astros have no
games against each other in the
remaining schedule. The Mariners
do face the Astros in Tuesday
and Wednesday in Seattle so they
could make the difference.
The Rangers play Sunday against
Toronto then they face the New
York Mets for three then finish
the season against the Minnesota
Twins. The Astros face the Atlanta
Braves on Sunday after losing on
Saturday. After the two games
against the Mariners they finish
up against the Athletics so they
certainly have a shot to win the
AL West.
Sunday the Mariners will start Kade
Anderson so hopefully he will pitch
better than his last outing. The
Rockies will have a right handed
starter so Lez Montes should be in
again. The Mariners have done better
against them than the lefties especially
on the road. Go M's..
