Seahawks Getting Ready For Opener

The Seattle Seahawks have one pre-season game left to see who makes or doesn’t make the team for the opener on September 9. Although they haven’t won a pre-season game yet which is Ok by the way Russell Wilson believes the offense is all ready to go. There is no comment about the defense though.

Doug Baldwin made his first appearance since day one of training camp on Monday so he is set to go however K.J Wright went in for surgery so don’t know how long he will be out. Right now rookie Shaquem Griffin is expected to take his spot.  Looks like he and his twin brother Shaquill will be in the lineup together. Shaquill will be starting at the cornerback position that Richard Sherman played for a number of years. Although Shaquem Griffin will be ready to go playing K.J. Wright’s linebacker spot there will be a drop off on the defense. Wright and Bobby Wagner are the best linebacker duo in the NFL. There are other questions on the defense as well like who will start across from Shaquill Griffin at the other cornerback spot along with who will start at Earl Thomas safety spot and the defensive line still not sure who will be at the end spot from Frank Clark.

Over the last several years the Seahawks offense has sputtered in the first half of the season along with at least half of a game. Russell Wilson’s plays in the fourth quarter have given the team a chance and often win those games. The running gave has looked better in pre-season over the last couple year. For the Seahawks to be successful this coming season the running game has to be good so that they can allow the defense to stay off the field as long as possible. The last couple years though a successful defense they have had to be on the field longer than necessary. Regardless of how good the defense is this upcoming season it won’t be as good as previous seasons we all know that.

Outside of K.J. Wright the starting team is pretty good health although some players have missed time during training camp both on the defensive and offensive sides.

The fourth and final pre-season game will take place on August 30 against the Oakland Raiders in Seattle. The first string will likely not play in the game or only start for one series. Go Hawks!
