Yankees 5 Mariners 3
only 3 runs meant they lose. Many of their
losses have been when they can't score 4
or more runs.
The Mariners loss had nothing to do with
lack of hits because they had 10 runs on
the day. The answer is when the hits happened.
The Mariners left 15 runners on base. The
top of the lineup was where it happened.
Have to take advantage when you can.
The scoring in this game was quite interesting
when you look at it. The Yankees scored a run
in the bottom of the second then Mariners
responded for a run in the top of the third.
Kyle Seager hit a solo home run in the 4th
followed by the Yankees scoring in the bottom
of the 4th tying at 2-2. Stayed that way until
the seventh inning when Jarred Kelenic hit
a solo home run. Newly acquired Joey Gallo
from the Texas Rangers hit a three-run homer
game and match.
Gallo's home run was cheap in the smallest
part of Yankee Stadium in right field. Actually
the ball curved in for the home run. The
Mariners were unable to add any runs in the
8th and 9th inning. It isn't as though they
didn't try as they had two hits in the 8th and
a hit and a walk in the 9th just couldn't get
a hit when to count.
Gallo's home run was off reliever Paul Sewald
who has been pitching well for the most part
on the season. Sewald throws a slider along
with a rising fast ball. The problem was his
fast ball didn't rise on the pitch Gallo had for
a home run. Sewald threw some good pitches
before the home run but can't make mistakes
when runners are on base. The two hits prior
to Gallo's home runs were down the center
of the plate as well. We hope Sewald can
recover and pitch well when called upon in
the series. Go M's.
The Seattle Seahawks are in the midst of
training camp. First exhibition game will
be a week from Saturday on the 14th. Instead
of four exhibition games they have gone to
three. I guess we can call them pre-season
as well. All three games will be against the
AFC West. The first one will be in Las Vegas
going against the Raiders. The other two will
be at home against the Denver Broncos and
the Los Angeles Chargers.
I am sure we won't see a lot of their new
offense but it will be interesting to see what
we do during the exhibition games. Also,
like seeing the new players including rookies.
Speaking of rookies the Seahawks top draft
pick wide receiver D'Wayne Eskridge is on
the injured can't perform list right now. How
long he will be out we will have to see. We
hope D'Wayne will be able to get into at least
one pre-season game. What this means other
receivers will be looking to be the third
receiver in the lineup going along with Tyler
Lockett and DK Metcalf.
Freddie Swain a rookie last year has the best
chance of being the third receiver until Eskridge
is back on the field. Most of the other receivers
vying for a spot are either rookies or were on
the practice squad last year. This includes former
Washington Husky Aaron Fuller who can do
punt returns as well. Most likely Tyler Lockett
won't be fielding punts.
Besides the new offense which I hope means
they won't mess up in crucial times to call a
play it will be interesting how the defense
gets going this year. Also, when will Jamal
Adams sign extension along with left tackle
Duane Brown. They are both in camp but not
practicing right now.
The Washington Huskies start practice today
Friday August 6. Last year's starting quarterback
Dylan Morris is still the starter however it could
change during camp we will see though. The
Huskies have good depth at running back as they
all come back from last year. There will be
competition at wide receiver. The Huskies lost
a couple starters who transferred out. The offense
line have all starters back as well. It will be
interesting see improvement on the defensive
side especially against the run. The passing
defense should once again be dominant.
