Mariners 8 Rays 2
It was nice to get the series to the Rayson good standing after blowing the last
two games against the Rangers in Texas.
It is amazing to the think the Mariners
have a hard time on the road in Texas
against the Rangers and Astros.
Another thing the Rangers have a hard
time in Seattle. The Mariners did well
against the Rays sweeping earlier in
Seattle and now are 5-0 so far this year
with two games remaining. It will be
nice if the Mariners could take at least
one more win if not sweep the series.
The Mariners offense had a good night
along with the pitching. Chris Flexen
has had trouble on the road this season
but not in this game. Flexen went six
and two-thirds innings giving up two
runs on seven hits, two walks and struck
out six.
The Mariners had a big inning in the
third inning scoring five runs without
a home run. They added another in
the fourth inning. Ty France had a big
night with three hits including a home
run which came in the seventh inning.
A solo shot plus they scored another
run as well. France starts off August
as he ended July. Ty now has 11 home
runs on the season.
Another reason the Mariners offense
got going Jake Fraley came off the
injured list after a rehab assignment
in Tacoma. Jake had two hits, driving
in two runs in the third inning and of
course in his fashion had a walk as
well. Fraley activated Shed Long Jr.
went on the injured list. Expect he
will do a rehab assignment when
he can. Shed has been struggling
since he had his walk off home run.
JP Crawford had two hits on the night
scoring two runs and Mitch Haniger
had two as well scoring once. Jarred
Kelenic had a hit on the night well
as a walk; he drove in a run too.
Yusei Kikuchi will start Tuesday
against the Rays. We hope a Kikuchi
type of game. Most likely he won't
face the Yankees while in New York.
The Mariners have next Monday off
before facing the Rangers again in
Seattle on Tuesday. The following
week they will be back facing the
Rangers in Texas well as the Astros.
It was reported New York Yankee
pitcher Gerrit Cole tested positive
for covid. He was scheduled to pitch
against the Orioles on Tuesday. Cole
most likely miss the Mariner series
as well.
We will now look at players on the
Everett Aquasox. They have seven
players among the top 30 prospects
including pitchers Emerson Hancock
and George Kirby both first rounders.
Jake Anchia catcher began the season
in Everett though he now is double A
Arkansas. Jake was batting .250 when
promoted with 9 home runs. He is
struggling at Arkansas hitting below
.200. We hope to see his average increase
this month. Jake was a seventh round pick
by the Mariners in 2018.
Connor Hoover a first baseman after
starting at third in the Mariner organization
is hitting only .214 has nine home runs.
Connor was drafted in the 21st round by the
Mariners in 2017.
Tyler Kennan a fourth round pick last year
by the Mariners is a third baseman. Tyler
could end up moving to first base adn do
some dh if he makes it to the Mariners.
Currently Tyler is hitting .216 with five
home runs. We see how he does the rest of
the way. Tyler is Mariners # 23 prospect
decided to mention him here anyway.
Cade Marlowe outfielder started his season
in Modesto however has played just over
half of his games with Everett. After hitting
.301 in Modesto he is hitting .242 in Everett
He has shown good power hitting seven of
his 13 home runs for Everett. Cade was drafted
by the Mariners in the 20th round in 2019.
Kennie Taylor outfielder the Mariners signed
him to a minor league contract. He was drafted
in the 14th round by the New York Mets in
2019. He started the season in Modesto but
has played in Everett as well as Tacoma.
He was batting over .300 in Modesto while
.250 at Everett and .200 in Tacoma. Kennie
has not shown much power yet having a
home run in Modesto and Tacoma.
There is a look at some minor leaguers in
Everett. We will look Arkansas next
time for those playing not named Julio
Rodriguez. lol
