The Seattle Mariners lost to the
Houston Astros in the beginning
of their six game home stand
6-4.
Luis Castillo who has six wins at
home already on the season went
seven innings giving up four runs.
He gave up a three-run. homer to
Yordan Alvarez in the third in the
third inning and another run in the
fourth. Despite that he had 96 pitches
in the seven innings.
Kolten who had been struggling at
the plate has found his stroke now
hit a double in the fifth inning driving
the three guys on base. The score
stayed that way until the eight inning
when Ty France, Jarred Kelenic and
Eugenio Suarez hit three singles in a
row to tie the game at 4-4.
At the top of the ninth Kyle Tucker hit
a two run homer off Matt Brash. Manager
Scott Servais came out and argued with
the home plate because he thought the
count before the home run should have
been a strike out. Of course Servais was
tossed from the game.
The bottom of the 9th was sloppy running
Teoscar Hernandez hit a ball and looked
like was going for a double right off the
gate but he hesitated between first and
second base then went to second base
bag. He was called safe by the umpire
but was called out on appeal by the Astros.
I thought he would be called safe because it was close but those in New York didn't
see it my way or the Mariners. I read later
on social media many Mariners fans feel
Hernandez should not play in Saturdays
game for a bad running. One thought he
shouldn't play for a week. I am on the side
of the one game or two, seven seems a bit
exstreem.
JP Crawford came up next and hit a single
which meant the Mariners would have two
run base with no outs and had a good chance to score at least one run or tie or
win. They would have score two tie if
the next batter hit a home run. Taylor Trammell hit a ball to first base for an out.
JP Crawford ended up in a round down
between first and second and had no
chance that was the ball game.
On the Mariner website mentioned six prospects who could make their debut
in 2023 besides Byrce Miller who has
made a magnificent debut and make
his start on Sunday after Marco starts
Saturday night. Emerson Handock is the
next one on the dock it. I see him taking
Marco's spot if he flounders however
that makes five righthanders in the
rotation with Robbie Ray out for the season. Ray had Tommy John surgery
so he may not return until next May
or June.
Three other right handed starters who
could make their debut but I would
say likely until after the all-star game
or later is Bryan Woo who was a six
round pick in 2021 doesn't have a lot
of innings throwing in the minors but
could be called if necessary. Most likely
he and Prelander Berroa who had a good
spring training won't make their debuts
until 2024 unless the Mariners need them.
They are both pitching at double A Arkansas as is Hancock.
The fourth pitcher is Taylor Dollard who
is at Tacoma. He hasn't got off to good
start but he had the best of the four
prospects at double A last season.
He might be called up as a spot starter
if the Mariners need one. He can throw
a lot of innings too. Say Chris Flexen gets
traded I would say he might be a good
place to put in his spot as a long reliever.
The next two players are both outfielders
and each hit left handed. Cade Marlowe
would be the next one up. He started the
season on the injured list. Since being able
to play he has nine extra base hits of his
total 19 hits. The second in line is Zach
DeLoach who is playing in Tacoma as
well. His high seiling would be the fourth
outfielder which means likely means spending time at dh as well. It might be
some time this season before season
before seeing either one since they
are both lefthanded hitters and as long
as Taylor Trammell stays healthy and
doing well don't see any room out there.
If either one was a right handed hitter
be another story as AJ Pollock has
been struggling at the plate though
he has hit a couple home runs in
crucial times. We hope his bat starts
to come alive. Most likely be at dh
against lefties most of the time.
Well see how the Mariners do Saturday
night as Marco goes on the hill. Go M's.
