outing in a row by Luis Castillo as they
shutout the Pirates 5-0 Saturday afternoon
to even the series.
Castillo went six innings throwing 99
pitches while striking out ten batters
and walking two. The Pirates were
only able to get one hit off Castillo.
They didn't do much better off the
bullpen getting one hit off Gabe Speier.
Four relievers struck out seven Pirates.
At the same time walked one batter.
The Mariners didn't have a home run
in the game however had six doubles
which is a good sign in T-Mobile park.
I always thought the Mariners hit there
if they were able to hit doubles. Edgar
Martinez never seemed to have a lot
of trouble doing do. The Mariners were
led by Ty France with two doubles. Lead
off hitter JP Crawford had a couple
hits including a double and scored
twice. The really good news Julio
had two hits which included a double
as well. The Mariners are showing
when Julio hits they win more often.
It looks like he is over his season slump
so the Mariners could see more victories.
The Mariners have Marco going Sunday.
We hope he does well like in his last
outing as well. It would be great if the
Mariners can head into the Yankees
series with momentum.
Down on the farm Zach DeLoach who
was higher on the prospect list last
year is on a 13 game hitting streak
and batting .400 for Tacoma Rainiers.
On the season he is batting .298
while having a .399 on base percentage.
Sounds like if the Mariners need another
left handed bat in the outfield DeLoach
could be the man.
Right now Dylan Moore will be the next
man to be activated. The question who
will go Sam Haggerty or AJ Pollock. In
either case Moore will be the guy ahead
of either one since he can play both
infield or outfield. The question is how
long will they stick with Kolten Wong
as he is not hitting well either. Moore
likely take Haggerty spot though Haggerty
is a switch hitter but not getting in a lot
of time at the plate. Jose Caballero is
doing well he is playing almost every
game whether second, third or shortstop.
This means we could see Moore in the
outfield against lefties and substituting
for Ty France at first and France at dh.
Go M's.
