Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Jake Bobo Sign

Monday the press conference with
the signing of Jaxon Smith-Njigba
as the highest paid wide receiver
receiver in the NFL. This last season
he showed what he had now going
into his fifth year. It helps that he
isn't a selfish player either. The
Seahawks get him the ball when
he is open and the team needs a
big play.

We hope the Seahawks running
game will be good to make him
even more productive.

The Seahawks just signed receiver
and special teams player Jake Bobo.
He was a restricted free agent. He
signed avtwo year deal with Jacksonville
for aboutb$5.5 million. The Seahawks felt
he was valuable to retain especially being
so good on special teams. He can be
used when the Seahawks go to four
receiver too. Being in the clubhouse
I am sure helps too.

The Seahawks probably won't draft a
a wide receiver this year unless it is
best player available. The Seahawks
will hope a running back, offensive
lineman who can play right guard
and an edge rusher will be the three
top choices. Still go with best available.
Go Hawks!

Seattle Mariners Spring Training Wrapped Up

Monday afternoon the Mariners had
their final spring training game. They
lost to the Padres 10-3.

Luis Castillo started and pitched
well going five innings and throwing
75 pitches. He only walked one and
struck five. Luis gave up one run and
that happened in the 5th inning.

The Mariners got a run when Julio
hit a single scoring Brendan Donovan
and Cal advanced to third. Too bad
he wasn't able to score in the first.

Randy Arozarena scored the second
run on a homer in the 3rd inning.
Interesting Mitch Garver who made
the team as the backup catcher end
up playing first base. Who knows we
could see him there too.

Matt Brash pitched an inning. He
gave up a run however there was
an error. He didn't give up a hit
but a walk.  Carlos Vargas  did
fine in an inning. The rest of the
runs by the Padres were late off
of minor leaguers.

On the pregame radio show manager
Dan Wilson said that Bryce Miller
will start the season on the injured
list however won't be out long. In
fact he will throw in a minor league
game in Arizona. Go on a rehab
assignment. It looks like Emerson
Hancock  will make one start at
least.

Not sure yet about JP Crawford.
The Mariners faced a lefty Leo
Rivas was at short while Ryan
Bliss was at second.

Let you know how the bullpen
is set by Thursday. Go M's.

Seahawks Expected Two Big Signings

Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Devon
Whitherspoon are expected to
sign two the largest contracts
in NFL history.

Both players had great seasons
going into the fifth year of their
rookie contracts. Doesn't hurt
that both were instrumental in
getting the Seahawks to win
the Super Bowl.

Smith-Njigba was  NFL offensive
player of the year. He is expected
to sign a four year deal over $168
million. Whitherspoon is expected
to be a three year deal around
$86 million.  Both will be after
their fifth year is concluded.

A question will the Seahawks sign
another running back or wait and
draft one. Stay tuned.

Mariners Win Sunday Night

The Mariners beat the Chicago
White Sox 4-2 Sunday night.

Nothing official yet however Mitch
Garver hit a home run in his  first
at bat of the night and then drove
in the second run as well the word
is that he has made the ball club
as the backup catcher.

No one was really impressive
as far as hitting the ball among
the candidates. Being familiar
with the pitching staff likely
made the difference. You have
go figure that Garver will play
once a week at catcher. If he
does bring along his offense
than we could see him behind
the plate twice a week at times.
The Mariners are hoping to get
Cal some relief behind the plate
and things work out will make
the difference.

The first couple weeks at least
the Mariners will have a couple
days off so that gives Cal some
rest.

Bryan Woo started Sunday night
and he went six innings. He gave
up  three hits including a double
that  scored a run. He walked zero
and  struck out four. If he pitches
this way much of the season he
will win a lot of games.

Andre Munoz came in the 7th
and gave up no hits or runs.
He did walk a batter and struck
out one too.  Luis Castillo will
start Monday afternoon in the
final spring game. Thursday
will be the season opener at
home against the Cleveland
Guardians.

We will see whether shortstop
JP Crawford will be on the
opening roster and the same
goes for starting pitcher Bryce
Miller. If Miller does start the
season he won't have to pitch
for a week from tomorrow.

We will give you the details on
both and who will take both
players spot if they go on the
injured list.  Go M'S.

The Washington Huskies Men's Basketball 2025-26

The recent season of the Washington Huskies was a difficult one.  I am sure everyone
in the program wanted more success than
what happened.

The Huskies were riddled with injuries
and they played in the tough Big Ten
Conference.  The conference ended up
with nine teams going to the NCAA tournament. Michigan who won the
regular season was a number one
seed in the tournament. Nebraska was
the unsung team in the conference
now going to the sweet sixteen. They
had never won a game in the tournament
in the history of their program.

German born freshman Hannes Steinbach
led the Huskies in scoring and rebounding.
Without him the Huskies would have had
less wins. The Huskies had conference
record of 7-13 tied with USC for 12th
place. The Huskies actually beat USC
twice in the regular season and again
in the Big Ten Tournament. They lost
to Wisconsin who made the  NCAA tournament however only by three points
in the  Big Ten Tournament.

When the Big Ten Tournament happened
the Huskies had only seven healthy  scholarship players.  The Huskies likely
lose Steinbach to the NBA and Quimari Peterson who is a senior.  Peterson
started the season coming off the bench
however with injuries he had to go into
the starting lineup. Both of these guys
the Huskies will have to look into the
transfer portal to replace.

Zoom Diallo and Wesley Yates are
the two next important players next
to Steinbach. They both will be juniors
next season so they likely take another
step forward.

My grade for the Huskies would be
incomplete since injuries were not
allowed to see how good the team was.
In the months ahead we will hear
about at least two new new players
coming in for significant playing
times and a freshman or two as
well. Go Dawgs!

Cubs Beat the Mariners Saturday Night

The Cubs beat the Mariners 7-1.
George Kirby started and pitched
well. Likely he will pitch game
two the regular season.

Kirby went five and one-third
innings give up six hits and one
run in the first inning. Gabe Speier
came in and struggled giving up
three runs on four hits including
a home run. Eduardo Bazardo
pitched the seventh inning giving
up one hit and no runs. It was
minor leaguers who went the
rest of the way.

News came out Saturday that
Colt Emerson is being sent
down  to start the season with
triple A Tacoma. At some
some point of the season we
will see Emerson in a Mariners
uniform.

It will be interesting what other
moved will be made. Will JP
start the season of go on the
injury list. The Mariners likely
go with five infielders and
six outfielders/db. Go M's.

Gonzaga's Season Ends

Texas who upset BYU on Thursday
has now beaten the Zags 74-68.
The game was close all the way.
Texas now goes to the Sweet Sixteen.
The Zags were hoping to go to
the final four at least however Texas
been hot recently. Had the Zags had
Braden Huff it might have been
another story.

Graham Ike a seniored the Zags with
25 points making 10 of 22 from the
field. Texas did a good job on him
where he had only three rebounds.
Jalen Warley was the only other
one to score in double figures.
with ten points.

Braden Huff will be a senior next
season and the main big man.
The Zags will have to find another
one. They are good with returnees
at guards however the front court
will need help.

We will see in the months ahead
who comes to the Zags.

Mariners Crush Guardians

Friday night the Mariners best offense
output of spring training against the
Cleveland Guardians who they open
against next Thursday of the regular
season  winning 20-8.

The Guardians scored first with two
runs in the first inning. Jose Ramirez
hit a two run homer off of minor
league starter Gabe Mosser.

The Mariners had ten runs scored in
the second inning beginning with
a home run by Cole Young.  Brendan
Donovan hit a double scoring two
more runs. Dominic Canzone who
return from WBC playing for Italy
hit a grand slam as well in the
second inning.

At this moment we are not sure
that JP Crawford will start the
season so the Mariners started
Cole Young at shortstop and Leo
Rivas at second base. Young
had a great game hitting a double
and a second home run.  Young
and Canzone each had five this.
Young also scored four times.
The likelihood is if JP doesn't
start the season Rivas would be
at short and Young at second but
the Mariners wanted to see how
Young look at short too.

Victor Robles who had struggled
at the plate during spring had
four hits including a home run
and driving in four runs. Julio
had three hits including a home
run.  Every player who started
had at least one hit in the game.

The Mariners used four relievers
who likely will be in the bullpen.
With three games left in spring
training they may get one more
appearance.  The last game will
be on Monday against the Padres
in Peoria. The game will start at
12:10 pm then the M's will fly
to Seattle.

It was announced that  Logan
Gilbert will start the opener
on Thursday. The Mariners
play Saturday night  against
the Chicago Cubs. It is a night
game because it is hot weather
in the Phoenix Arizona area.
Not known yet who will start
the game though likely the
one who will follow Gilbert.
By the way Gilbert did pitch
on Friday in another game.
The Mariners didn't want to
see him against the Guardians
in his final tuneup. Go M's.

Look At the Washington State Cougars Men's Basketball

This last season for the Cougars wasn't
a good one on men basketball. They
ended up with placing eighth in the
West Coast Conference with a record
of 7-11 and an overall 12-20 record.
The worst was they had a 1-11 record
on the road.

Next season the Cougars will be joined
up in the new Pac-12. Gonzaga should
be favored to win. News  came out that
the Cougars have one of the worst
budgets in the conference for men's
basketball. I expect much of the athletic
program budgets go to the football
team.

The world of NIL and the transfer portal
it will be interesting to see how the
Cougars end up doing.  Most of the
teams are coming over from the
Mountain West. Generally they do well
in college basketball so hopefully can
be a competitive conference with the
Cougars included.

We will see over the months ahead
who returns to the Cougars and who
makes up their squad. Go Cougs!

Mariners Win Thursday Night

The Seattle Mariners have a week
until the season begins.  The two
main questions will Bryce Miller
be in the starting rotation and
JP Crawford start at shortstop.
If not who will be on the roster
to take their spots.

The Mariners beat the A's 6-4.
The Mariners used minor league
pitchers like using a bullpen
only.  The A's scored first with
three runs in the third inning then
the Mariners scored all six of
their runs in the seventh inning.
A's scored their last run in the 8th.

The scoring for the  Mariners  began
with Randy Arozarena hit a single
to drive in the first run. Ryan Bliss
hit a single to drive in two runs.
Cal back for his first game after
the WBC hit a double to drive in
the last three runs. He was at dh
while Mitch Garver was catching.
Whether he is the backup catcher
or not to start the season we will
see. Go M's.

In the NCAA tournament Gonzaga
beat Kennesaw State 73-64. It
wasn't an easy game and the Zags
could have been upset. Kennesaw
was up by 13 points in the first
half before the Zags went on a 10-0
run.  The Zags were able to get a
ten run lead before the end of the
game. Kennesaw became very
physical. Zags Graham Ike was
charge for a fragrent foul where
Kennesaw made two free throws
and a field goal to make it real
interesting. I am not sure how
Graham was charged with a
fragrant foul when a defender
came over to double team him.

After the game Zags head coach
Mark Few said it was the defense
that helped them to win. This was
how it was when they lost Braden
Huff for the season.  The Zags
take on Texas who upset BYU
in the game before there's.
It was a similar game as theirs
where Texas built a large lead
the only difference BYU wasn't
able to take a lead though it
did become close. This game
will take place on Saturday.
The winner will then go into
the sweet sixteen. Go Zags.

Emerson Hancock Starts Mariners Beat Brewers

Emerson Hancock went three and two-thirds
innings. His starts stats don't look great
since he gave up three runs however he
didn't walk anyone and struck out four.
The rest of the pitching came from minor
leaguers.

Brendan Donovan led off the game
with a home run. Luke Raley who
continues hot during the spring
hit a three run homer in the third
inning. In the 5th Raley hit a double
to drive in another run. Randy Arozarena
hit a home run scoring him and Raley.

Tyler Black was the Brewers offense
driving a run in the 2nd inning with
a sacrifice fly and in the 4th  a triple
driving two runs.

Final Mariners 7 Brewer 3

The Mariners play a night game on
Thursday against the A's. The Mariners
isn't known yet.

Julio Rodriguez was in the lineup
however had no hits.

Go M's

A lot of Mariners fans are upset that
Cal Raleigh didn't start or make an
appearance in the loss to Venezuela
Tuesday night.  You would have thought
he at least pinch hit at some point.
Cal shown he is a clutch pinch hitter
Will this fuel Cal in the regular season.

Mariners Lose and Win Split Squad Tuesday

The Seattle Mariners lost game one
at home against the Padres 9-6.

Luke Raley is coming off an injured
plagued season last year. He was player
of the game having three hits including
a home run in the first inning. Raley
and Victor Robles who had an injured
year in 2025 both come back after a
good 2024 season.

The Mariners could start this out as
a platoon in right field. How it works
out will decide whether it stays that
way. Robles was the starter in 2024
when he came over from the Nationals
on waivers. Besides being in right
field we can see him in center when
Julio needs a day off. Raley could
play first base if Naylor needs a day
off though both hit left handed.  All
depending on how Dom Canzone
does as dh we could see Raley be
there against righties.  We hope
Raley can be a good pinch hitter
as well. In 2024 Raley had 22 home
runs so that could be a key too.

Luis Castillo started and went four
innings giving up five hits and two
runs. Both runs were solo home runs
by the Padres. The Mariners starters
often give up home runs. If they can
reduce the amount of homers this
season that will help.

Casey Leguimina was the first to reliever
in and went two innings giving up no hits
and no walks. He looks like he could be
the seventh of eighth reliever. Casey could
go two innings if needed. The last two
relievers will likely do that.  The Mariners
season starts in a week from Thursday
so we will see.  The Mariners only have
six days of games before coming to
Seattle. Friday afternoon they have what
is called the breakout game against
Milwaukee Brewers. That will be with
the top prospects.  At night they will
play the Cleveland Guardians.

In the second game the Mariners won
beating the Rockies 10-6.  Cooper
Criswell made another start as he or
Emerson Hancock could be the 5th
starter if Bryce Miller can't begin the
season.  He went three innings giving
up five hits and two runs. Depending
on the other starters we could see
either Criswell or Emerson go three
innings in starts until Miller gets back
if he starts the season on the injured
list.

The Mariners had Ryan Bliss lead
off and play left field which we
haven't seen from him since he
is a middle infielder.  He could be
the utility player if JP starts on
the injured list. Last year Bliss
started the season opener at
second base however was injured
early on and missed most of the
season.

Leo Rivas started this game at
shortstop. He walked three
times and scored twice.  Most
likely Rivas will be on the opening
roster and may start if JP can't.

The Mariners play the Brewers
on Wednesday afternoon. Not
sure who will start yet. Go M's.

The World Baseball Classic
Venezuela is leading 2-0
going into the bottom 7th inning.
The USA has only two hits.
Mariners Eduardo Bazardo
was the first reliever for
Venezuela coming in the
5th and got all three hitters
out. USA will have to come
alive if expected to win.

JP Crawford Still Ailing

JP Crawford it looks like won't start the
season for the Mariners at shortstop.
He is off to see an expert. He has only
played a handful of games during
spring training. How long he will be
out and be on the injured list I am sure
we will know soon.

That means that either Colt Emerson
or Leo Rivas will start at shortstop.
If Rivas is the shortstop than it means
that Ray Bliss will likely be the backup
utility player. The Mariners would want
Emerson to play everyday in the minors
if he doesn't start for the Mariners.

The likelihood Emerson will be called
up at some point possibly in May
whether Crawford is ready to go or
not.

I am sure fans still wondering about
Cole Young being the starting second
baseman. I could see Crawford move
over to second base because of his
shoulder.  If both Emerson and Young
are doing well I could see Crawford
being the backup. He is in the last
year of his contract. This doesn't bid
well for him to get a new contact next
year at least for the Mariners.  Most
likely he is going have to take a pay
cut.

It looks like the Seattle Supersonics
will be an expansion team in 2028.
The NBA will be taking bids soon
on the ownership. I thought it was
the Kraken for sure however could
be another group. Las Vegas will be
the other team. It will be interesting
to see how long the team takes to
become good.  Will the general manager
and coach have some ties to Seattle
as well. Stay tuned!

Seahawks Free Agency so far 2026

In recent days with free agency beginning
they have made a few moves so far
Ken Walker III was not resigned and
went to the Kansas City Chiefs. He said
in press conference he wasn't happy
about his playing time during the 2025
season. Of course they had Zach Charbonnett as well before he was hurt during the
playoffs.  The MVP of the Super Bowl
I can understand his frustration. The
question to is did they use him right as well.
He should have been used in the passing game a bit more too.

The Seahawks signed Green Bay Packers
running back Emmanuel Wilson. He is big so
likely do Zach work until he is ready. George
Halini may have the job starting. Seahawks
may draft a running back in the second draft

More Seahawks news later. Go Hawks!

Mariners End Losing Streak and Zags Go To Portland

The Seattle Mariners ended their
losing streak beating the Cincinnati
season on Sunday 6-3. George
Kirby said that the Reds were
aggressive against him. He went
four and two-thirds innings giving
up two runs.

Andre Munoz was back from the
WBC. He pitched the sixth and
struck out three. Matt Brash pitch
two-thirds of an inning and struck
out two.

Randy Arozarena was back too. He
batted second. No hits but two walks
and scored a run.  Brendan Donovan
had a big day going four for and driving
in three runs. He could be difference
this coming season for the Mariners.
The Mariners big inning was the fifth
where they scored five runs

The Mariners won't play on Monday
and Tuesday they will have split
squad games. With United States
and Dominican Republic playing
Sunday night in the semis they
will have someone back on
Tuesday.

In the NCAA tournament Gonzaga
will be the number three seed in
the West region and play Kennesaw
State number 14 on Thursday in
Portland. I am sure the Zags will
have a big crowd on hand. Go Zags!

Saturday, March 14, 2026

Angels Beat Mariners Saturday

Again the Mariners lost 6-2 this time to
the Angels. Logan Gilbert put in his
tine. He went 2 and 2/3 innings. He
gave up six hits and two runs. I am sure
he was working on some things. The
importance is getting ready for the
season.

Come Young is looking good including
a couple hits and has done so the last
week or so. Colt Emerson had a
couple hits too.  Leo Rivas started at
third base. Last season he didn't play
third at all. Most likely he will be the
Mariners utility player so getting some
reps at third is a good idea. We still
not sure how JP Crawford is really
doing. Hard to know whether Colt
Emerson will start the season in
Seattle or not.

During the season we will give you
the stars of the game and how guys
are doing.  We are hoping to see
whether Julio Rodriguez gets off
to a good start. With Cal Raleigh
now being the franchise player
and the Mariners signing Josh
Naylor to  a free agent contract
for five we are hoping that Julio
can be himself. Now at 25 years
old he is starting to see maturity
and we hope to see his best season
coming forward. Looking at his
stats they all look good but most
of what he has done has been after
the all-star break at least offensively.
Julio has been steady playing defense
all the way. We are hoping a good
season beginning the regular season
that starts in less than two weeks.
Go M's.

Mariners Lose Friday To Dodgers

Kade Anderson got off to a rough
start in his third start of the spring.
He gave up a three run homer to
former Mariner Teoscar Hernandez.
Kade settled down after that going
three innings and not giving up
another run.

The Mariners actually tied the game
in the second inning. The game was
silent until the sixth inning when the
Dodgers scored six runs. It started
with new Dodger Kyle Tucker hit a
solo home run off of reliever Robinson
Ortiz who ended up giving up four the
runs without recording an out.

The Mariners scored a single run in
the 7th.  The Dodgers scored their
final run in the top of the 9th.
Colt Emerson hit a three run homer
in the bottom of the 9th to make it
closer than it really was.

The Mariners will play the Angels
Saturday afternoon in their park.
Logan Gilbert will start for the
Mariners.

The United States beat Canada
7-5 in the WBC.  The Canadians
did have the tying runs on second
and third in the 7th inning however
United States didn't allow another
run.

The United States will take on
the Dominican Republic on Sunday.
Go USA.

Chicago Cubs Beat Mariners Thursday

The Cubs beat the Mariners 7-4 on
Thursday.  Emerson Hancock went
four innings giving up four hits
and two runs He didn't walk a batter
once again however struck out five.

Pitcher Josh Simpson gave up three
runs in the 7th to make the difference.
At this point it doesn't look good
for him as the Mariners don't have many openings in the bullpen.

Minor league player for the Mariners Colin
Davis had the big hit having a three run
homer in the 8th.

The Mariners take on the LA Dodgers
Friday night in Peoria. The starting
pitchers are not announced yet

With Mexico out of WBC we should
be seeing Andre Munoz and Randy
Arozarena soon. Munoz pitched the
final inning Wednesday. He should be
in camp soon but his next outing we
will see.  Go Mariners!

Narrow Loss By Washington Huskies

The Washington Huskies had to make
another comeback to have a chance
to beat a very good team in Wisconsin.
The odds 8 against them since they
had only seven healthy players. The
Badgers beat the Huskies 85-82 after
Washington had to come back from
another double digit deficit.

Freshman Hannes Steinbach led the
Huskies with 25 points and 16 points.
Most likely the Huskies season has
ended. Steinbach was the Huskies
best player. He was named third team
in  Big Ten and first team freshmen.
Expect Steinbach not to return since
word is he will likely be a lottery pick
in the NBA. We thank him so much.
One of the best freshmen the Huskies
have.

Zoom Diallo had 24 points. Both he
and Steinbach made ten field goals.
Quimari Peterson had 14 points. A
senior he average nine points. Some
of the season Peterson did a good
job coming off the bench then injuries
happened where he became more
value. The Huskies will have to see
where they can pick up someone
to take his spot.

Wesley Yates had only six points
making one out of  six shots. Had
he made two more shots they may
have won but I wouldn't li that on
him. Yates and Diallo should be
key players next season going in
as juniors.

Courtland Muldrew a freshman had
eight points and playing 31 minutes.
He played limited action being in 18
games.  JJ Mandaquit another freshman
who missed this game played in 22 games
and average 5.2 a game. He started some
games early on in the season.  Both
these two could be keys to next year's
team as well if they return.

Having more healthy team next year
will be good. Playing in the Big Ten
isn't easy.  Go Dawgs!

Wednesday Mariners Lose To Colorado

The Seattle Mariners lost to the
Colorado Rockies Wednesday
11-7.

Luis Castillo started and three
and a third innings. He gave up
one run on two hits. Matt Bradysde
his first appearance of the spring
giving up run. He should be ready
when the season begins.

Seven of the runs happened when
the Rockies scored off of Casey
Lawrence who likely played for the
Rainier's in Tacoma. He adds depth
in case the Mariners need a starter
or reliever during the season.
There are others ahead of him but
he could come up for one appearance
if necessary.

Cole Young was the Mariners player
of the game having three hits include
a home run and driving in three. He
batted 7th  in the order. JP Crawford
made his second appearance
at shortstop in the spring where he had
a couple of hits while batting 6th.

Emerson Hancock will start Thursday
for the Mariners on Thursday. Go M's.

Washington Huskies Beat USC in Overtime

The Washington Huskies had beaten the
USC Trojans twice before this one in
the Big Ten Tournament.  The Huskies
are shorthanded having only seven
scholarship player available because
of injuries.

The Trojans led most of the first half
and at a time led by 15 points. It look
a bit hopeless though the Huskies
did well in the second half getting back
to a tie.

The Trojans did a good job on Hannes Steinbach as he had ten points with
seven in the first half. He did have eleven
rebounds so another double. Zoom
Diallo led the Huskies with  22 points.
He shot seven for 20.  Wesley Yates
and Quimari Peterson each had 15.
Peterson made all his points behind the
3 point line going five for ten.

The Huskies will take on number five
Wisconsin on Thursday again at 11:30
am. Go Dawgs

Mariners Beat Royals Tuesday Gonzaga Men Win Too

The Seattle Mariners won a close spring
training game in Peoria Tuesday afternoon
4-3.  The Mariners have another season
of games with the winner by one run it
is a good idea to start in spring. We do
hope more wins with at least two run
difference with the Mariners winning
but we can take we can get.

Cooper Criswell had his second outstanding
game starting in a row for the Mariners.
Criswell went three and one-third innings
giving up two hits, no runs, no walks and
five hits.  He won't be in the starting rotation
unless  there are injuries.  He could be a
reliever starting the season. If so he would
be a long reliever. Emerson Hancock though
right now looks to be the first guy to start
if the Mariners need a starter.

The  Mariners scored a run in the second
inning and two more in the fourth.  The
Royals tied the game on a three run
home run in the sixth inning off a Mariners
minor leaguer. The Mariners scored the
4th run in the bottom of the sixth.

The Mariners bottom of the order did
most of the damage.  The four runs
didn't include any home runs.

The Mariners play the Colorado Rockies
Wednesday in Peoria. No scheduled
starting pitcher as of yet however the
Mariners could start Kade Anderson
once again. If so we could Ryan Sloan
pitch as well. Go Mariners!

In college men's basketball Gonzaga beat
Santa Clara in the West Coast Conference
championship game  79-68. The game
wasn't as easy as the score shows.
Santa Clara led by four points at halftime.
The Zags didn't take the lead until
halfway in the second half.

Mario Saint-Supéry led the Zags with
21 points. What helped the Zags as
he made 6 of 12 shots all 3 point shots.
That doesn't happen often especially
on the Zags. Tyon Grant-Foster came
off the bench with 20 points. He made
seven of eleven from the field but only
two out of three from three point line.
Graham Ike the team's leading scorer
on the season had 15 points. Santa
Clara was able to stop Ike with having
four rebounds but the rest of the
players made up for it.

Winning the West Coast Conference tournament the Zags qualified for the
NCAA tournament. We will find out
on Sunday who will play in the
tournament.

Washington Huskies play USC Trojans
in the Big Ten Tournament first round
Wednesday morning at 11:30 am.
The Huskies beat the Trojans twice
on the season so see if they can do
it a third time.  Huskies are the 12th
seed while Trojans are 13. Go Dawgs!

Gonzaga In WCC Tournament Championship

Gonzaga men's beat Oregon State
in the semifinals of the WCC
Tournament Monday 65-56.
They play Santa Clara who beat
St. Mary's in an upset 76-71.

The Zags led by 14 at halftime.
The closest the Beavers got
in the second half was ten points.
The Zags shot 48.2 percent from
the field while the Beavers shot
33.8. Neither team shot well from
beyond the 3 point line. Most of
the season the Zags were not a
good 3 point shooting team.

Graham Ike had 24 points for the
Zags. He made 10 of 17 from the
field. Ike had 11 rebounds as well.
No one else scored in double figures.
The Beavers had two  players  in double
figures scoring.  Together they had
one more point than the Zags.

Santa Clara shot better than St.Mary's
from the field. The difference was three
point shooting. Only kept St. Mary's
in the game was foul shooting.

The Zags defense will have to stop
Santa Clara from making 3 point shots.
Go Zags!

Seahawks Free Agency and Mariners Lose Monday

The Seahawks ended up losing Ken
Walker III  as expected and it was
to the Kansas City Chiefs who signed
him to a three contract. If it wasn't
for the loss of Zach Charbonnett for
next season to injury it may not have
been as big of a deal.  We do hope
we see Zach before the end of next
season.

The Seahawks lost a couple of defensive
players to including defensive back
Colby Bryant to the Chicago Bears.
He did quite well moving from corner
to safety as  well as staying healthy.
The beginning of his career he had the
problem being healthy.

The Seahawks resigned cornerback
Josh Jobe to a multi year contract
as they did punt returner/wide receiver
Rashid Shaheed.  The contract for
Shaheed was $17 million a year. Expect
the Seahawks use him in multiple ways.
We might see him more out of the
backfield though his punt returner can
make big difference in field position.

The Seahawks likely lose a few more
and add as well. They will likely sign
or trade for a running back. Drafting
a running back possibly in the second
round is a possibility.

In baseball the Mariners lost Monday
afternoon in walkoff fashion to the
Diamondbacks 2-1. Arizona had a
runner on second with two outs when
pop fly went beyond Colt Emerson
at short. The game would have ended
in a tie otherwise.

Bryan Woo started the game for the
Mariners and was happy with his
outing.  Woo went four innings give
up one run in the 4th inning. Brendan Donovan did well getting two hits
in the game. He is looking good
so far. JP Crawford made his first
start at shortstop in the spring. We
hope he will be ready to go when
the season begins. Go M's.

George Kirby Looks Good In Mariners Loss

The Seattle Mariners lost to the
Milwaukee Brewers Sunday afternoon
6-3.

The Mariners scored first on a Leo
Rivas two run homer in the second
inning. Rivas at this point looks
like to be their utility player.  He
likely play second and shortstop
most of the time. Shortstop would
depend on whether Colt Emerson
is on the opening day roster or not.
Even if Colt starts the season in
the minors he will be on the Mariners
at some point in the season.

George Kirby started and pitched three
plus innings giving up two hits including
a double in the fourth to the first hitter.
Troy Taylor who is struggling came in
to replace Kirby. He got an out then
gave up a single that drove in a runner
that was recorded as a run to Kirby.
Troy then gave up a three run home run
before being lifted. He was given the
loss in the game.

Josh Simpson who the Mariners
acquired from the Miami Marlins
during the off-season gave up two
runs on two hits and two walks.

Brennan Davis hit a solo home run
for the Mariners in the sixth inning
to end all the scoring. David is having
a good season. Most likely he will
start the season in triple A however
if the Mariners have any injuries in
the outfield we may see him this
season.

The Mariners take on the Arizona
Diamondbacks Monday afternoon in
Scottsdale with Bryan Woo on the
mound. Go M's

Washington Huskies Lose Final Regular

The Washington Huskies men's basketball
team game Saturday was a bit crazy at
Oregon and in the end lost 85-79.

The Oregon Ducks got hot right off
the bat making 7 of 7 outside the
three point line. This allowed them
to be ahead by 21 points in the middle
of the first half. They led the Huskies
by 14 at half time.

The Huskies went on a 29-8 run in
the second half to take a three point
lead with 28 seconds left in the game.

The Ducks won primarily because Huskies head coach Danny Sprinkle went crazy when Hannes Steinbach had to foul after a ball
was stolen with three seconds left in the
game. Sprinkle thought that Steinbach
was fouled then was charged with two
technical fouls. The Ducks ended up
making five of six foul shots for the
victory.  It shows how important to
keep your cool.

Steinbach led the Huskies with  26 points
and 13 rebounds. He led the charge when
the Huskies went on their run despite
having three fouls during most of that
time.  Steinbach is tied for second in
double doubles in the nation with 20.
A major reason he is likely going to be a
lottery pick in the upcoming NBA draft.

Now both the Huskies and Ducks will
have to see what their pairing will be
in the first round of the Big Ten Tourn-
ament coming up next week. The Huskies
actually have a better record than the
Ducks so they likely will be set higher.

Michigan has the regular season title
followed by Michigan State, Nebraska,
Illinois and Wisconsin making the top
five in the conference. Those five
should make the NCAA tournament.
The Huskies real chance is winning
the Big Ten Tournament. Go Dawgs!

White Sox Beat Mariners Saturday

I have to say if the Mariners going to
lose to the White Sox spring training
is the best time.

Logan Gilbert pitched well going
four innings and not giving up a
run and only two hits. Carlos Vargas
went an inning and gave up the
first run. Jose Ferrer went an inning
without giving up a run. The rest of
the pitching was minor leaguers.

Though not much scoring going on
Brendan Donovan had a couple hits.
Mitch Garver started at catcher and
had a hit. Still not sure who will be
the backup catcher. Dan Wilson
would like to see Cal have more
rest behind the plate this season.
At this point the offense from the
back up catcher does not look
like a whole lot.

The Mariners play Milwaukee on the
road Sunday.  The time change means
the game will be at 1 pm on radio only
George Kirby will start for the Mariners.

In college men's basketball the Washington State Cougars lost Friday night against
Portland 74-68.  Portland's big win was
earlier over Gonzaga. It has been not a
good season for the Cougars. It will be
interesting to see what happens over
the off-season with the transfer portal.
The Cougars will be playing in the new
Pac-12. Gonzaga should be the one
favored next season. Go Cougs!.

The Washington Huskies play final regular
season against the Oregon Ducks Saturday
night. Ducks have done well recently so
could be tough game to end the regular
season. Go Dawgs!

Seattle Mariners Bounce Back Friday

The Seattle Mariners beat the Texas
Rangers on their spring training field
5-1. It was way different than Thursday
game which is overstated.

Cole Young was the player of the
game for the Mariners with two
home runs and three rbis. The
Mariners want to be sure he hits
more fast balls. I figured he listened.

Kade Anderson started and went three
innings and gave up one hit and no
walks. Emerson Hancock continues
having a good spring training. He
went three innings giving up three
hits, one run, no walks and four strike
outs. The Mariners used Robinson
Ortiz a lefty they acquired from the
LA Dodgers last November. He could
be the third lefty. Most likely he will
be the eighth reliever if he makes
the opening roster.

Logan Gilbert starts Saturday against
the White Sox. With the time change
on Sunday the afternoon games will
begin right after 1 pm.  Go M's.

Mariners Blown Out Thursday Afternoon

The Seattle Mariners were more than
blown out though that was a good
word since the winds were high
on Thursday afternoon. When you see
the score a good reason for a mercy
rule in even major league baseball.

Final Padres 28 Mariners 6

This was the second most runs ever
in a major league spring training
game. The Mariners were close too.

Luis Castillo to who started gave up

six runs in the second inning. Minor
leaguer Tyler  Cleveland gave up
five runs. Both got out only one run.
The Mariners gave up one more run
yo finish the inning. The Mariners
actually got two runs in the bottom
of the second. The Mariners ended
up using nine pitchers with each
giving up at least one run.

I thought maybe Raley and Robles
would play however only Raley did
with three at bats but no hits.
About it for that game. We hope for
better conditions and pitching.

Friday the Mariners take on Texas
in the afternoon. Kade Anderson
will make his second start for
the Mariners. See how far he goes
this time. Go M's.

Huskies Win Big Wednesday Night

Wednesday night was the final home
game of the season. The Washington
Huskies men's basketball team dominated
the second half scoring 51 points
to the USC Trojans 29 points.

Final Washington 91 USC 72 points

Zoom Diallo led Huskies with 26 points
making 11-19. Freshman Hannes Steinbach
who likely played his last game at home
scored 22 points and dominated with 24
rebounds.  Steinbach is expected to be a
lottery pick coming up in the next NBA
draft .

The Huskies shot 48.1 percent from the
field while the Trojans shot 37.5.
The score could have been worse however
the Trojans made ten more than the
Huskies at the foul line.

The Huskies final regular season game
will be Saturday on the road against the
Oregon Ducks.  Go Dawgs!

Mariners Lose Wednesday Night

Right now we know that spring training games don't have a lot of meaning
except for those are trying to make
the teams.

San Francisco Giants won 9-4

With several position players along
with relievers Andre Munoz and Gabe
Speier are in the World Baseball Classic.
Action on that has started.

Cooper Criswell who the Mariners
signed during the off-season started
and had his best outing so far went
three innings giving up two hits and
no runs. He makes the opening roster
he likely will be the seventh of eighth
reliever to begin with.  He is considered
one guys to start if one of the Mariners
five starters go down with an injury.

Currently Emerson Hancock is considered
the first pitcher to go into the rotation
if a starter does go down. His experience
being in the bullpen in September gives
him an edge starting there when the season
begins. We have no idea what the Mariners
are thinking in that regard. Really doesn't
look like a lot of candidates besides Hancock
and Criswell are being impressive in camp
among relievers. Both making opening
day roster we could see them go at least
a couple of innings in each outing if necessary.

The Giants runs were off Carlos Vargas
and Jose Ferrer for the most part. Both
are expected to be on the opening roster.
Vargas job again will be coming in the
sixth or seventh inning. He had a lot of
appearances last year being in 70 innings.
A lot of that happened because the Mariners
had trouble with the seventh and eighth
spots in the bullpen. We hope a change
there this coming season.

Ferrer who the Mariners acquired when
they traded catcher Harry Ford to the
Washington Nationals. Ferrer is expected
to be the second lefty to Gabe Speier.
Depending when Speier is needed we
could see Ferrer sometimes in the 8th
inning or possibly close on occasion
when Munoz isn't available. This I
expect would depend on how many
left handed hitters will be up. Matt
Brash is expected to be the main
reliever in the 8th and occasion in
the 9th. All depends how close the
game is.

As far as position players go Cole
Young started at second base and
led off. I am sure the Mariners wanted
him to get enough at bats. He had a
hit and drove in one of the Mariners.
JP Crawford who has been dealing
with his arm in spring was the dh
having a couple at bats. He didn't
have a hit although he did drive in
two runs. Leo Rivas who is expected
to be the utility player started at shortstop.
If JP is able to be started at short when
the season begins we could see Rivas
playing some there early on along with
second base. We hope that JP injury
doesn't continue to bother him early
on which could see Colt Emerson in
the lineup at short.

Brendan Donovan is expected to start
at third however if Emerson does start
the season with the Mariners we could
see him at third as well as shortstop.
We won't know more for two more weeks
when we are close to the opener.

With Julio Rodriguez and Randy Arozarena
being in the WBC Classic the Mariners
went all with minor leaguers. Dominic Canzone is also playing for team Italy
in the WBC. Luke Raley and Victor Robles
who are in camp didn't play against the
Giants. Could see both in Thursday game.

Wednesday night former Mariner Robbie
Ray started for the Giants. He went two and two-thirds giving up two hits and a run.
He is expected to be in the Giants rotation.

Thursday afternoon Luis Castillo is expected
to start against the San Diego Padres.
Let you know how it goes.

Former Washington Husky Dealt To Rams

The Kansas City Chiefs traded cornerback
Trent McDuffie to the Los Angeles Rams.
McDuffie left the Huskies after three
years and was drafted by the Chiefs in
the first round.

McDuffie was a excellent punt returner
for the Huskies as well as cornerback.
He is going into his last season of his
rookie contract and word is the Rams
will sign him to long term contract too.

The Rams traded their 2026 first round
pick and  three other picks to the Chiefs.
Missing the playoffs for the first time
in several years the Chiefs look to be
rebuilding in a way. McDuffie was hurt
and missed the end of the season.
The Rams obviously feel he is worth
the risk.

The Rams know that the Seahawks
are a young team and though the
Super Bowl champion could be the
leader of the  division the next few
years though could lose a few free
agents.  The Seahawks are expected
to sign wide receiver Jaxon Smith-
Njigba during the off-season to a
long term contract. This is likely
the reason the Rams picked up
McDuffie.

For the Huskies fans means seeing
McDuffie at least twice a season
and we hope in the playoffs as well.
The matchup between Jaxon and
Trent could be great.  Go Hawks!

Woo Starts However Mariners Lose

Bryan Woo went two and a third
innings on Tuesday afternoon for
the Mariners.

First couple innings he did fine.
Had a walk and four strike outs.
A minor leaguer coming in first
to finish the inning hasn't helped.

The Angels won 7-6 however had
three runs in the ninth inning off
of minor league pitching as well.

JP Crawford made his first appearance
since the beginning of training camp.
JP dh had two at bats including a
walk. Mitch Garver caught as well.
He had one hit. Not sure he will
open the season with the Mariners
but we could see him at some point.

The Mariners have a night game
on Wednesday at the San Francisco
Giants. They won't have another
night game until March 13 against
the LA Dodgers. Go M's

Seattle Seahawks Going Forward

The Seattle Mariners are not playing
Monday in spring training as one of
two days off. So here we go on the
Seahawks.

Winning the Super Bowl a team can't
go higher though I am sure they will
try to be better so they can repeat as
champions which is never easy.

The Seahawks will likely lose a few
players to free agency and who knows
maybe retirement or releases.

Ken Walker III who was the MVP of
the Super Bowl could be one of those
guys. All comes down to how much
another team is willing to pay him.
They do have a few on defense as well
but with the defense they have  they
should find away to still be good.
They might have to replace but we
will see that over the season.

Zach Charbonnett was hurt in the
first game of the playoffs and might
not play at all next or if he does will
be late in the season. He would have
been the starter otherwise.

The Seahawks have other running
backs however no one they would
consider being a starter or would
have seen more action in the playoffs.
If Walker does go elsewhere the
Seahawks will go out and find someone.

Both Walker and Charbonnett were
second round picks so even bringing
in another running back they may take
another on in the second round of
sooner.

There is talk that the Seahawks may
draft another wide receiver in the
first round to go with Jaxon Smith-
Njigba.  Cooper Kupp is expected
back and he would be good to work
with that receiver.  A thought is if
he is available that receiver could
be former Washington Husky Denzel
Boston.

If Denzel already taken could see
the Seahawks taking another
offensive lineman to play on the
right side at guard.  The Seahawks
have four draft picks as of now.
The first, second, and third rounds
plus the sixth round.  Likely they
will add some more picks. So we
will see what happens there.

On the Washington Huskies football
they lost their offensive coordinator.
At this point they are not replacing
him according to head coach Jedd
Fisch.  So Fisch will continue play
calling and the position coaches
will do what they do. I guess we
will see how that works out  Go Dawgs!

Rangers Beat Mariners Sunday

The Mariners scored first with half
the runs on the day on a home run
by second baseman Cole Young.

The Mariners were without the
players who are going to play in
the World Baseball Classic.

Final was Rangers 9 Mariners 4

Logan Gilbert pitched fine giving
up a solo home run in the second
inning. He went 2 and 2/3  innings.
A top pitching prospect pitched
a single inning in the 4th.  Gabe
Mosser signed a minor league
contract pitched the fifth giving
up five runs on seven hits.

The Mariners won't play Monday
so next game with be against
the Los Angeles Angels in Peoria.

The season will start on March 26.
Minor leaguers have reported so
soon we will see players who are in
major league camp be sent own.
Whoever makes the end of the
roster we won't know for a bit of
time. Go M's.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Jake Bobo Sign
