Mariners Beat Royals Tuesday Gonzaga Men Win Too

The Seattle Mariners won a close spring
training game in Peoria Tuesday afternoon
4-3.  The Mariners have another season
of games with the winner by one run it
is a good idea to start in spring. We do
hope more wins with at least two run
difference with the Mariners winning
but we can take we can get.

Cooper Criswell had his second outstanding
game starting in a row for the Mariners.
Criswell went three and one-third innings
giving up two hits, no runs, no walks and
five hits.  He won't be in the starting rotation
unless  there are injuries.  He could be a
reliever starting the season. If so he would
be a long reliever. Emerson Hancock though
right now looks to be the first guy to start
if the Mariners need a starter.

The  Mariners scored a run in the second
inning and two more in the fourth.  The
Royals tied the game on a three run
home run in the sixth inning off a Mariners
minor leaguer. The Mariners scored the
4th run in the bottom of the sixth.

The Mariners bottom of the order did
most of the damage.  The four runs
didn't include any home runs.

The Mariners play the Colorado Rockies
Wednesday in Peoria. No scheduled
starting pitcher as of yet however the
Mariners could start Kade Anderson
once again. If so we could Ryan Sloan
pitch as well. Go Mariners!

In college men's basketball Gonzaga beat
Santa Clara in the West Coast Conference
championship game  79-68. The game
wasn't as easy as the score shows.
Santa Clara led by four points at halftime.
The Zags didn't take the lead until
halfway in the second half.

Mario Saint-Supéry led the Zags with
21 points. What helped the Zags as
he made 6 of 12 shots all 3 point shots.
That doesn't happen often especially
on the Zags. Tyon Grant-Foster came
off the bench with 20 points. He made
seven of eleven from the field but only
two out of three from three point line.
Graham Ike the team's leading scorer
on the season had 15 points. Santa
Clara was able to stop Ike with having
four rebounds but the rest of the
players made up for it.

Winning the West Coast Conference tournament the Zags qualified for the
NCAA tournament. We will find out
on Sunday who will play in the
tournament.

Washington Huskies play USC Trojans
in the Big Ten Tournament first round
Wednesday morning at 11:30 am.
The Huskies beat the Trojans twice
on the season so see if they can do
it a third time.  Huskies are the 12th
seed while Trojans are 13. Go Dawgs!
