World Series champions it is see how things
go over the next the next six months.
We hope both owners and the players take
the fans into consideration in their negotiation
for a new collective agreement. What they
think without fans they would be something
else going on.
I don't know the commissioner that well so
I hope he doesn't play a lot of hard play
with the owners. There is a large difference
of salaries between the Rays and the Brewers
for instance. They are not at very bottom but
close to it. The Seattle Mariners are 16th in
the majors so basically the middle.
The floor is expected to be about what the
Mariners payroll is. My opinion the minimum
salary floor should depend a lot about the
average age of a team. The White Sox have
a young team and whether right or not they
would have a lot of players under the minimum.
In that case the minimum would have to be
raised to fit the floor they are projecting. I
I believe the minimum should go up every
year a player is on the team until the player
goes into arbitration. Teams like the Mariners
are signing their top pick who is doing well
before arbitration like Colt Emerson. I expect
Cole Young will be next.
Logan Gilbert has one more season before
becoming a free agent. The Mariners should
do like the Seahawks do by signing the top
one in the same way right away. They did
so in a way when they signed Cal Raleigh into
extension.
Free agency right now is six years so I would
lower it to five years which is the average years
a major leaguer plays.
The teams like the Dodgers have a high salary
payroll. I am not sure the owners of the Dodgers
want to change that except the what they pay
in luxury tax. The Dodgers are more veteran too.
I am up for the floor however a salary cap
which the majors have never had and the
descrepancy of payrolls is their doing so
why add a cap.
The Mariners are expected to be hiring their
new major in a few days so we will see how
that goes. I know some fans don't want the
former manager of the Astros. I don't have
a problem with it as the manager of the Astros
back then has been the manager of the Detroit
Tigers for several seasons.
Last season the Astros had multiple injuries
to frontine players and still won the division
though we all know the Mariners should have
won it. That is the past. Go M's.
