The pitchers and catchers reported Wednesday for spring training. The day primarily was for taking physicals and meetings. Today(Thursday) the pitchers will be start throwing. I am sure there are some position players in camp as well.
In the meetings they end up breaking pitchers into groups for what days they will throw. On the other days, they will exercise including stretching probably in the outfield.
I remember when I went to see the Mariners in spring training I saw Felix Hernandez bunting with a group of other pitchers. This was the spring after he signed his latest contract that ended last year. Other pitchers were laughing because Felix couldn't bunt or at least he wasn't taking it seriously.Of course, bunting only happens inter-league games any way.
Former Mariners Franklin Gutierrez is in camp to work with the outfielders along with Mike Cameron and Ichiro. Edgar is in camp to work with the hitters I expect.
Word was Taijuan Walker was in the clubhouse on Wednesday Reporting he is going to sign a contract with the Mariners. Not sure whether it is a major league contract which would mean they would have to release a player since the 40-man roster is full or to a minor league deal.
Any player who is on a minor league deal and not on the 40-man roster makes the team out of spring training will be added on well as being on the 26-man opening roster.
