Mariners Even Spring Training Games

The Seattle Mariners are now 2-2 in four games. The
pitching is improving in these two last games. When
the pitchers start getting around to being in more games
the scores should be improving. Sometimes though
runs can be scored often late in the games because
the teams have pitchers that won't make the team.

The case of this year's spring training the Mariners
have a lot of pitchers competing for a spot on the
roster so it may not happen as frequently as in past
ears. The starting rotation is close to being in place
but the bullpen is wide open for relievers to make
the roster. The Mariners will have a five-man rotation
along with 13 relievers.

The starting rotation is intact for the most part though
the fifth starter there will be competition  for the
relievers. It will be interesting to see how things
work out.

Since the Mariners are rebuilding they could go with
one or two young relievers in the bullpen. Let you
know how that works out.

Wednesday the Mariners beat the Reds 5-3. Justin
Dunn made his spring debut. It is his job to win or
lose the fifth spot in the rotation. He could end up
in the bullpen to. He went two innings giving up
two hits, one run, one walk and two strike outs.

The Mariners had five pitchers who will be
competing for the bullpen throwing in the game along
with a minor league pitcher. Tim Lopes came into
the game not starting continues to carry a hot bat
getting two doubles now he is 5-5 so far. He certainly
taking it seriously to make the ball club.

The Mariners have a split squad on Thursday taking
on the White Sox on the road while having the San
Francisco Giants on their home field. They will
probably go with their starting position players at
home.
