starter in Matt Brash. Friday night
Brash had another outstanding
outing going four and one-thirds
innings. Gave up two hits with
one being a home run. He walked
one while striking out five. The
one run was his first of the spring.
George Kirby competing for the
fifth spot to went three innings
without giving up a run. Kirby
gave up one hit, no walks and
struck out three. The thought is
he will be the opening day starter
on Tuesday for the Tacoma Rainiers.
With the Rainiers season starting on
Tuesday the Mariners cuts will likely
happen over this weekend. When these
cuts happen we will know whether Julio
Rodriguez be on the team or not. I am
sure we all agree he should be.
News came out on Friday that reliever
Ken Giles hurt a finger and he will be
out for at least a month. This might
mean the Mariners may only carry nine
relievers instead of ten. On the other
hand Jerry Dipoto may feel it be more
important to have ten. If so who would
that be?
Robby Ray makes his final start of spring.
He will be the opening starter on Thursday
against the Twins. Cal Raleigh had a hit
on Friday. The question is will he still be
on the team when season starts or sent
to triple-A. He has caught Ray in his previous
starts so Saturday night who will catch Ray
on Thursday will be answered. Other words
who catches Ray Saturday night will be the
starting catcher. Go M's!
