The
time of the year for football begins this Friday. It is amazing that is here
now which means summer only has about a month to go. Real avid footballs are
ready to go all the time and I am sure happy training camp starts on Friday.
I
wonder if the media will keep asking about Russell Wilson’s contract until it
is signed or not signed. It is possible if not signed by Friday or more likely
when exhibition season (pre-season) games start. It is any one’s guess if he
will sign or wait until next season.
Now
for the real important things going on during training camp; who will play
center and left guard on offense along with who will make it as receivers. It
will be an exciting time to see how it all settles when season starts out. I
believe the receiving chore will be better than last year especially adding
Jimmy Graham at tight end along with Tyler Lockett who likely will return
punts. Both of them will make those spots
much stronger than last season. Graham will help in the red zone so much for
his height and leaping ability, and Lockett should put them in a better spot
after getting the ball back on punts. Those two things alone should improve add
seven point average this season over last season.
On
the defense side of the ball could have more questions because of injuries in the
secondary and replacing Byron Maxwell at cornerback across from Richard
Sherman. Though he had no surgery no one knows right now if Sherman will be
ready by opening of the season which we hope so since Earl Thomas says that he
may not be ready for opening day. Thomas could be the player the Seahawks least
afford to lose. We can hope that he does not try to come back to soon since the
Seahawks could miss him for a few games instead of the season.
The
depth of the defensive line is another question mark; however, I am sure Pete
Carroll feels that everything will be alright because how he likes to have
competition at every position.
We
can hope that Wilson’s contract will be taken care of one way or another. The
receivers are the best in a long time,
the offensive line will be better this year, and Earl Thomas will be ready for
opening of the season or miss a handful of games. So Let’s Go Seahawks!
