The Mariners Get Blanked in Fenway

The Seattle Mariners continue to struggle offensively on the road. They have only scored nine runs in the last nine games. Of course you can’t win too many games that way. They had five total hits in the game on Saturday. Guillermo Heredia continues to hit lefties well had two of the hits along with Jarrod Dyson. Valencia batting second this time had the other hit.

Rob Whalen made his first start in a Mariner uniform after being called up earlier in the week. He had a rough start giving up three runs in the first inning. He did a good job from the second inning through the fifth inning and then gave up a two-run homer to Jackie Bradley Jr in the sixth inning. He was replaced by Casey Lawrence who pitched the final 2 and 2/3 innings so the bullpen was saved at least.

James Paxton who made a rehab assignment on Friday night is expected to pitch for the Mariners in their first home game against the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday night. I am sure the Mariners will try to limit his pitches and hopefully he will make it through five innings and allow the Mariners to be in place to win the game.

I am sure manager Servais have asked the guys to relax and we hope that they can score some runs in the Sunday final in Boston. They do go to Colorado for two games where we hope that the bats come alive. I was hoping that when Robinson Cano came off the disabled list on Tuesday when the Mariners faced the Nationals that the Mariners bats would come alive as well. We hope to that Mitch Haniger will be able to make his rehab assignment this week so he will be back into the lineup. Whatever the case the pitching and hitting need to come together; they can’t let this drag on too much longer before being out of the race. Right now they have the worst record in the American League at 21-29 just behind the Kansas City Royals.  They are currently two games behind the Oakland A’s and four behind the second place Los Angeles Angels so a little winning streak would put them right back in the thick of things.
