The Seattle Mariners lost Saturday
again to the Houston Astros 8-6. Erasmo Ramirez ended his streak of quality
starts at five games I believe going only four innings giving up eight hits and
six runs. The Astros are one of the top hitting teams in the American League.
Although the Mariners are still
mathematically still in the race for the wild card the chances are not good.
The Astros can clinch the division title on Sunday with a win against the
Mariners. The Mariners have Andrew Moore making the start while Justin
Verlander will for the Astros. Since the Mariners seem to go on little losing
streaks over the season just like winning streaks the signs are not good. The
loss Sunday would make it difficult for the Mariners to make the playoffs. In
fact they would have to win all out pretty much to make the playoffs at this
point.
I believe now the important thing is
to see where things will for the Mariners going forward for 2018. They have
made a good effort with the fact they have been handicapped in the starting
rotation all season. Ariel Miranda was the only one to make all his starts
until now and he has run out of steam. The other one in the rotation that did
not get hurt was Yovani Gallardo however he was taken out of the rotation twice
because he has performed terrible. His real success has been while in the
bullpen.
It will be interesting to see if
Jerry Dipoto will go out and get another pitcher to add to the starting
rotation. As far as the bullpen I see it pretty set though I am sure he will go
and some for additional depth. The position players are set to other than
possibly first base. I am sure they will be searching for a backup catcher. It
will be another interesting off-season for sure. Go M’s.
