Mariners Lose to Oakland Again

The Mariners lost to the A's 5-3 on
Sunday in another sloppy gain. This means the Mariners were 5-4 on
this road trip. Thankfully they swept
the Angels in three.

For the month of August they are 11-9.
The Mariners took four of six against
the New York Yankees. Though they
have a winning month they could have
done much better. Could have easily
been 13-7 or even 15-5.

Luis Castillo wasn't at his best giving
up four runs in five innings. I believe
it was because he had an extra day
of rest. My opinion he should have
started Saturday or even the series
opening game.

The Mariners have another day off
on Monday. I hope they don't give
him another extra day. The fact he
is expected to be the ace. Castillo
pitches on regular rest he will go
in the second game of the series
against Cleveland on Friday.

Having a line drive thrown at him the
Mariners could have Logan Gilbert
go on Saturday. The Mariners could
skip Marco Gonzales in the rotation
as well. It isn't like he is lighting the
world on fire right now.  This month
with so many days off a four man
rotation is fine but they are not
doing it.

The Mariners had a couple opportunities to score more runs.
They his runners on third base
twice and couldn't get either home.
In the first instance they could have
driven in two runs tying the score
at 3-3.  One time might be acceptable
but a team making the playoffs it
is not.

I am sure some fans are upset how
Castillo pitched but I blame it on
Servais for not starting him yesterday
at least. I am sure they are trying to
setup the rotation in a fine manner
but not how they did it. I hope they
do it different in the future. Having
a five man rotation was not needed
the last week or so.
