however the Mariners need to
best the lesser teams. The Texas
Rangers are one of those.
The Mariners remind me of the Pete
Carroll-Russell Wilson Seahawks.
Do just enough to win. That is fine
against teams like the Yankees and
those who are battling for the playoffs.
Teams like the Rangers and now the
Angels have to win by more than one
run.
Logan Gilbert pitched OK but gave up
three runs. The biggest trouble was
walking four batters which isn't like
him. The Mariners need to see more
the first half of the season Gilbert. Not only important to make the playoffs but when they are in it.
Matt Brash didn't do well giving up
the two run difference in the game.
Erik Swanson did what he has most
of the season come in and gets outs.
This time one out to finish the inning
Brash started. Diego Castillo did a
good job in his one inning of work.
The problem though the offense took
the day off especially the top of the order. Both Julio and Ty France didn't
get a hit. Haniger had a hit driving in
one of the runs. The other was done
by Sam Haggerty.
The Mariners ran out the lineup
to go against left handed pitching.
Plus they had their backup catcher
which was fine because Cal Raleigh
does need a day off on occasion.
The problem is the lineup against left
handed pitching is not strong unless
the top six are performing.
On the positive side JP Crawford had
two hits and scoring twice. The problem the Mariners had only four
hits in the game.
Monday night Luis Castillo goes
against Ohtani in the series opener.
Most likely another low scoring
affair and we hope another Mariners
victory. The Mariners have Ray
going Tuesday followed by Kirby
on Wednesday. The Mariners should
win two out of the three at least
The Mariners need the offense to
step up this week. Winning more
than one run would be nice.
