night to the Yankees in New York
7-2.
Takeaways: Marco Gonzales gave
up a three-run homer to Anthony
Russo in the first followed by a two run shot off Aaron Judge in the second.
Judge almost hit a homer in his first
at bat before Russo's.
I was reading how successful Marco
had it against the Yankees before this
one. Well Marco has to pitch his A
game or the Yankees will do what they
did. He gave up three home runs in all.
I heard on the broadcast and on Twitter
how Mario is a grinder and took it for
the team going five and a third innings.
Sounds to me like those who don't mind losing. Marco should have been
taken out after the second inning or
the first inning. The Mariners still had
a chance to win though were down 5-1
at that point.
The trouble was the Mariners don't
have any relievers who can go three
innings to keep from over using the
bullpen more. Matt Festa came and
pitched an inning and a third. Did a
fine job. He and Eriq Swanson who didn't pitch are the only ones who
possibly pitch three innings but then
the Mariners wouldn't have them
available for the rest of the series.
Tuesday the Mariners will have Logan
Gilbert going and Luis Castillo on
Wednesday in his Mariners debut.
They both can afford to miss a pitch
here and there against the Yankees
unlike Gonzales. A small mistake
against Judge could still mean a home run though the key is don't have a
runner on base.
Mitch Haniger looks like he is about
ready to be activated by the Mariners.
The likelihood they will wait for the
series against the Angels when they
return home run. The Mariners picked
up an outfielder on waivers from
the New York Mets. A guy named
Jankowski. He is batting under .200
on the season and has a career .236
batting average in eight years. Also,
Jankowski has less than five hundred
at bats in the eight years.
I really do hope the Mariners are able
to pick up a bat Tuesday before the
trading deadline. Anyone guess what the starting rotation be now. We know
the big three will be Castillo, Gilbert
and Ray. With a five man rotation
the final two spots be Marco, Chris Flexen and George Kirby right now.
Be interesting if they picked up another
starter. See how it goes. We will know
before the Mariners game tonight.
