The Seattle Mariners going on
a 1-5 road trip this past week
and before that a not so good
home stand had gotten off
to good start are now 33-34.
Injuries primarily to pitching
staff along with a few position
players finally got to them.
Logan Gilbert being on rehab
assignment is expected back
soon. Bryce Miller is on injured
list for second time and who
knows when he will be back.
Luke Raley outfielder-first
baseman is starting rehab
assignment this Thursday
for the Tacoma Rainiers.
How long a lot will depend
how he hits.
It has been at least a month
that fans want to see Harry
Ford catcher with Rainiers
up with the ballclub. The
Mariners are playing Cal
Raleigh a lot as well and
without his production the
Mariners record wouldn't be
this good.
The thing with Ford the Mariners
need to play him a few times a
week. With Cal Raleigh who will
catch probably five days a week
or at least four. This means Ford
would have to dh a few times
a week or play in the outfield
or some place. In Tacoma Ford
is at dh now as well as catch.
Mitch Garver who is currently
the backup catcher and dh on
occasion against lefties is
hitting .200. The trouble isn't
the average it is the fact he
has only one home run and
has driven in 10 runs. Garver
only has three doubles so
four extra base hits in 21 total
hits. The Mariners need more
than that. His defense is good
however the Mariners more
production out of him.
Last year though Garver's batting average was .172 his home runs
was at 15 and 51 RBIs. At this
rate he won't be close at all.
Does this mean bring Harry Ford
up and releasing Garver. They
still have to pay him regardless
what he does. You have to figure
Ford will be the backup catcher
next season. Adding another
position besides dh will probably
happen during the upcoming
offseason. President of baseball
operations Jerry Dipoto says
there is no plan to trade Ford
so bringing him up sounds like
the thing to do.
This week the Mariners brought
up Dominic Canzone from Tacoma
and dfa Leody Taveras who could
play for the Rainiers.
On Wednesday Harry Ford who has
been hot as of late like Canzone
and Cole Young before him. On
Wednesday night Ford a grand slam
home run in the third inning and
a double to driving in a total of
six runs. He is batting .312 with
seven home runs and 36 RBIs
after getting off to a slow start.
At Everett AquaSox Luis Suisbel
third baseman has been a big
surprise leading the team with
a .284 batting average. He has
seven home runs which is fifth
on the team. Outfielder and
superstar in the making Lazaro
Montes has thirteen home runs
and 41 RBIs to lead Everett.
Another top prospect infielder
Michael Arroyo got off to a slow
start however now he is second
to Montes with eleven home runs
and has thirty RBIs.
Update you again on other prospects
in the Mariners minor leagues soon.
