Mariners Promote Minor Leaguers

The Seattle Mariners promoted four
players from single A Everett to
the double  A Arkansas for the second
half of the season.

Right fielder Lazaro Montes, infielder
Michael Arroyo along with pitchers
Marcelo Perez and Charlie Beilenson
all helped the AquaSox to win Northwest
League first half after getting off to
a slow start.

Montes is the Mariners number two
prospect after Cole Young became
the Mariners second baseman.
His batting average at Everett is
.268 and he leads the league with
18 home runs and 50 rbis.

Michael Arroyo hit .262 with 15 home
runs and 30 rbis. He is the Mariners
number seven prospect.  It is hard to
know whether either or both play for
the Mariners. They could end up
being traded in a blockbuster trade
at some point however if they do
Montes will likely play some right
field and dh. Arroyo will be the team's
utility player since he can play every
infield spot.

Marcelo Perez started right games
for the AquaSox with a 4-2 record
and a 2.04 era. Perez walked only
five batters while striking out 34
in 35 1/3 innings Belinson who
throws right handed is a reliever.
He was drafted last year in the
fifth round. He is 25 years old so
a veteran in college anyway. He
struck out 48 batters in 34 innings
over 20 games.

Curtis Washington Jr. an outfielder
was promoted to Everett after playing
for Modesto. He was hitting .308
at . Modesto.
