Cubs Get Off to Great Start To Win

The weather was in the mid 90s
Saturday afternoon which didn't
help the Mariners. Emerson
Hancock had his worst start
since the opening game of the
season.

Emerson only pitched four innings.
He gave up nine runs in the first
three innings including giving up
four home runs and nine runs total.
Ian Happ had two home runs first
leading off the first inning for the
Cubs. The second was in the second
inning with two runners on base.
Kyle Tucker a former Astro player
followed Happ too.

The Mariners scored their first run
in the top of the second when Luke
Raley drove in Polanco however
down by one didn't last. The Mariners
down 9-1 when they did make a
comeback though not enough to win.

In the 4th inning Polanco scored again.
Donovan Solano singled him in. Raley
scored on a Cole Young sacrifice fly.
In the fifth the Mariners scored three
Moore runs. Polanco, Arozarena, Raley
and Solano took part in that nursing
too.

Solano seems like to hit in Wrigley Field.
Now that Rowdy Tellez was designated
for assignment Solano is going to play
more. Raley started in right field however
at times he will play at first base when
Dominic Canzone starts against a right.
We may see Dylan Moore start against
lefties in right field. The trouble is he
hasn't hit very well since the beginning
of May. In his last 30 games Moore is
batting .156 and it has gotten worse
most recently. Also has one home run
in those games and driven in three runs.
Makes things worse he has struck out
31 times in 64 at bats. Talk about a
slump. We will see what happens
during the rest of this road trip.

Again Cal Raleigh had a home run
though meaningless in the 9th inning.
Now he has  30 home runs breaking
Johnny Bench's record for a catcher
before the all-star break and for a
switch hitter. Who knows where the
records go as he continues on this
season. The other amazing thing
is he did this all after signing a
six year extension for the Mariners
right before the season. Not sure
anyone has done something like
that before either.

I am sure the Mariners will make
moves to the lineup on Sunday
since it will be hot again. Wouldn't
surprise me if Cal doesn't start
Sunday however may play a part
in the game if necessary.

After Sunday game the Mariners will be
off to Minnesota to play the Twins.
Go M's.
