Mariners Have Slug Fest In Chicago

The Seattle Mariners offense had their way on Friday afternoon at Wrigley
Field beating the Chicago Cubs
9-4.

Cal Raleigh had one of his two
home runs in the first inning
as a solo shot. The Cubs had
three runs in the first inning.
Both starting pitchers settled
down after that.  George Kirby
did give up another home run
in the third. Both Kirby and
Cubs pitcher Matthew Boyd
who did play one season with
the Mariners each left after
the fifth inning. Boyd is from
Mercer Island Washington.

The Mariners bullpen did a
great job only surrendering
two hits however the  Cubs
didn't. They gave up seven
runs.  The Mariners three
through six in the lineup
most of the damage. Besides
Cal having two home runs
and driving three runs so
did Mitch Garver having
two runs and driving in five.
Mitch had only one home
run on the season before the
game. His first home run was
in the six inning driving in two
however going into the 9th
the Mariners had a two run
lead however Mitch hit a
three-run homer to ice it.
Before the homer the thought
was Andre Munoz would pitch
the bottom of the ninth. It
didn't need him after the homer.
The game ended with a great
double play started by third
baseman Ben Williamson.

Randy Arozarena though he
didn't drive in a run did get
three hits in front of Garver
and scoring twice. Donovan
Solano had three hits on
the day drove in a run the
only one not done by Cal
or Mitch.

Before the game the Mariners
activated outfielder-first baseman
Luke Raley. Though he didn't start
against the Cubs since Boyd is
a lefty he came in for Dylan Moore
who started in right field.

The Mariners when activating
Raley they designated Rowdy
Tellez for assignment. With
both Raley and Tellez hitting
left handed was the reason.
The Mariners decided to keep
Dominic Canzone on the roster
too. Expect the Mariners to try
to trade Tellez or another team
will take him on waivers. The
likelihood he won't pass through
waivers.

The Mariners have Leodys Taveras
who was dfa then passed through
0)waivers when Canzone came up
so he could come up to Seattle
at some point.  He is currently
hitting .306 in Tacoma however
only six games.

Mitch Garver says he hits well
at Wrigley Field so we will see
how he does and how much he
plays in the next two games.
He did dh in this one. All three
being day games will Cal catch
each one and they will wait until
getting to Mitch to catch Garver.
He played for Twins before the
Rangers so he will likely get into
more games. This will give more
to trade Harry Ford or wait until
the offseason we will see. Go M's.
