Gonzaga and the Mariners

Gonzaga men's basketball team might not
be as good as anticipated losing to Purdue
84-66 last Friday.  They responded back
with a win on Sunday 88-84 over Xavier.
They are now ranked #14 after being number
2.

Gonzaga plays Baylor on Friday on the  road.
They  will  have to show what they have to be
a national  contender this season.

In baseball the Winter Meetings  begin this
weekend.  Will the Mariners  sign a free agent
or make a trade at the meetings or before.
They have been silent though sure they are
talking. Not much news on Mitch Haniger so
does mean that he will be back or not? The Mariners
certainly  have to pick up another if not.

The Mariners  do have three pitchers listed between
ten and twenty  of their top 30 prospects. Generally
position  players  don't  make the majors after the
top ten. Interesting  though outfielder Cade Marlowe
who was on the extra squad for the playoffs in case
of injuries  is listed as the Mariners  #21 prospect.
This must mean they have some pretty good position
prospects ahead of him.

The trade of lefty Adam Macko to the Toronto Blue
Jay's prospects have moved up. Recently I  have written
about top ten including Macko. Now I  will give the new #10
and 11.  #10 is Lazaro Montes an outfielder from Cuba.
He is 18 so a few years before seeing him. Lazaro considered
the number 8 in the international pool the Mariners signed
in January.  In his first pro season in Dominican summer league
Lazaro hit .284 and showed some power with 10 home runs.
He does hit left handed so keep his name for T-Mobile Park
in several years.

#11 is infielder Michael  Arroyo who signed as international player
this year as well. He batted .314 with 4 home runs in the Dominican.
Both players could be playing in  the USA  this year. Possibly at
Low level A Modesto.

Any trades the Mariners  do make could a top prospect or two.

Huskies Men Basketball

The Huskies beat city rival
Seattle University Monday
Night 77-66 in there annual
contest.

The Huskies got off to a good
start however let Seattle back
into the game. The RedHawks
were leading at half time 40-38.

Though the Huskies are 7-1
most of the games they have
been down by a few points
at halftime. The RedHawks
had a eight point lead in second
half before the Huskies started
to score.

Keion Brooks Jr led the Huskies
with 20 points.  Center Braxton Mean had his best offense outing having 18 points. Seattle
had no one to stop him.

Cole Bajema had a good first half leading to him having
16 points. Cole is starting in
place of Noah Williams who
has missed the last six games.
Cole likely be the first player off
the bench when Williams returns.

Jamal Bey scored in double figures with 10. It will be important for Bey to score
in double figures for Huskies
success.

The Huskies play Oregon State
on Thursday. This will show
whether the non-league games
have helped the Huskies or not
though they have been inconsistent. Go Dawgs

Seahawks Lose In Overtime

The Seahawks  lost for the second time
in a row. This time  to the Las Vegas
Raiders 40-34 in overtime.

The Seahawks  haven't  played well in
their last two games. I  wonder having
a bye didn't  help or were they playing
above their heads. Losing at home
didn't  help matters either.

Ken Walker  had a hard time  running
the ball though  he had two touchdowns
and the Seahawks  couldn't stop the
run including the final play of the game
when the Raiders ran for an 84 yard to.

Now time for the Seahawks get back
to the drawing board. The Seahawks
are on the road playing the Rams in
LA and then Carolina Panthers at home.
Both teams are having horrible seasons
so those games will  tell us more about
the Hawks.

In Hockey  the Kraken keep on winning
this time over the Anaheim Ducks on the
road 5-4. The Kraken  got off to a good
start scoring  three goals in the first period
however let the Ducks back in the game in
the second. The Kraken  though scored for
the win in the 3rd period. Tuesday night play
the Kings in LA before coming home.

The Kraken now are 13-5-3 and solid in second
place in Pacific division. Right now they look
to make the playoffs. Not bad for a second
year team. I  will  keep you up to date.

Huskies Win

The first three quarter it
was a tight game. The
Cougars looked like they
may win. The score was
Huskies 35-33.

The Cougars have problems
often scoring in the 4th quarter
and this game was no different.

The Huskies scored 16 points.
Michael Penix Jr had another
good game throwing for 484
yards and three touchdowns.

The offensive line was able
to keep Penix from having
to hurry most of the night.

Now the Huskies have to wait
to see who they play in a bowl
game. With ten wins it should
be a pretty good one. Stay tuned!

Kraken Saturday

As the local sports fan is getting ready
for the Apple  Cup Saturday night
I  figured say something  about the Kraken.

They beat the Vegas Golden Knights for
the first time in their short history on Friday
night in Vegas 4 to 2.

The Kraken  took the early lead and the
Golden Knights tied in the first period
2-2. The second period  the Kraken  scored
the final two goals and no goals by either
team.

The Kraken  controlled the time of possession.
Phillipp Grubauer started at goalie for the
first time since being injured early on in the
season.  We will  see when he sees action
again. It was an impressive win on the road
and the Golden Knights  lead the Pacific
division  withe Kraken  in the second spot.

The Seattle Mariners  when will they strike
again in a trade or signing a free agent.  Will
they sign someone not expected like they did
last year with Robbie Ray. Hopefully  with better
results in the first year. I  am  sure  everyone
expects better results  from  Ray in his second
year just like Jesse Winker  if he still is with
the team.

I do hope the Mariners  do something  this week.
Still  not sure  Mitch Haniger  will be back or not.
Both the Angels  and  Rangers are interested along
with some other teams. A lot will  depend what those
teams are offering  and whether  the Mariners want
to give more. Possibly  Mitch may want a new start.

Gonzaga WSU UW

All three of the top men's
teams in Washington basketball have all won
this week.

Gonzaga beat Portland State
on Thanksgiving 102 -78.
They take on Purdue Friday
Night. The Boilermakers are
4-0 and ranked #24 so maybe a close game. We will see.

Gonzaga had six players
score in double figures with
Malachi Smith come off the
bench with 23 points. They
play Baylor next Friday night.
If they win these two games
they should continue have
an outstanding season.

The Cougars ended a two game losing streak beating Eastern
Washington on Monday 82-56 then Detroit Friday 96-54. The
Cougars take on Oregon Ducks
next Thursday. See how they
against Pac-12.

I am sure the Cougars are
looking to the Apple Cup tomorrow night as well the
Huskies. Expect this to be a
close one.

The Huskies beat St Mary's
Thursday night in championship of the Legacy
Wooden. Nothing to brag
about since they had 25 turn
overs in overtime.
Washington 68 St. Mary's 64
Keion Roberts Jr led Huskies
with 14 points along with
11 rebounds. He was named
MVP of the tournament.

The Huskies play Seattle U
on Monday then face Oregon
State Thursday night. The
Huskies will need to start
faster and cut down on
turnovers on Monday night
before facing the Beavers.

This could be a long year for
the Huskies. Possible for
Cougs to but give them a
better chance. Not sure
Hopkins will survive for
next season.

Washington Huskies BB Win

The Washington Huskies
won Wednesday night in the Wooden Legacy Classic
62-57 over Fresno State.

It wasn't a very good game
for either team. The Huskies
had to overcome a shaky
start which they do often.
They missed their first
eight shots. Fresno State
led 8-0 before they made
their first shot. In fact Fresno
State wasn't shooting that
good either.

Keion Brooks Jr was the
only Husky to score in
double figures with 16 points.
He didn't have a good shooting
night going 4 for 15 from
the field. He did make all
seven of his foul shots.
Everyone else on Huskies
shit terrible at the line and
I am being kind.

The Huskies went on a 14
point run at the beginning
of the second half after being
behind 28-27 at the half.

The Huskies take on St.Mary's
who beat Vanderbilt 75-65.
The Huskies will have to get
off to a better start or they
will be blown out. In fact that
is how their season will go
against good teams.

Best to the Huskies on
Thanksgiving. They return
home to play Seattle University
on Monday to end November.
