Mariner Walk Off Even Series

 Mariners 2 Rangers 1

The Seattle Mariners having trouble scoring
runs continue good pitching especially from
the starting rotation even the three game series
which ends Thursday afternoon.

Jarred Kelenic started the 9th inning with a
double. With one out Jake Fraley had an infield
hit moving Kelenic to third. Luis Torrens who
had pinched hit earlier for Jake Bauers hit a
towering ball of the center field fence to score
Kelenic easily. It was actually Torrens first
walk off hit in his professional career. Good
timing not only in the game but for the fact
he was 1 for 21 in the month of August.
Torrens said he has been working on making
adjustments at the plate hopefully some good
things ahead for him.

What the Mariners need is adjustments from
most of the offense who have had trouble in
August scoring runs. In fact has been trouble
for much of the season. The Mariners had
done well in one run games until recently.

On the farm last year's number one draft
pick Emerson Hancock made his debut on
Tuesday for the Arkansas Travelers. Hancock
started the season his first in professional
ball in high level A in Everett. Hancock only
went 4 and 2/3 innings in his debut but didn't
give up one walk while striking out six. I
expect Hancock will go further in his next
outing.

The pitching Tuesday night Tyler Anderson
making his third start went 5 and 1/3 innings
giving up the one run he was followed by
Joe Smith acquired from Houston finished
off the sixth inning. He threw seven pitches
to get the two outs. All strikes by the way.
Casey Sadler pitched the seventh inning.
Diego Castillo looks to be pitching the
eighth inning gave up no hits either.
Drew Steckenrider pitched the 9th inning.
He gave up one hit however struck out one
as well. Right now the closer looks to be
a three man monster depending on the
situation. We should see Castillo againSe
at some point closing along with Paul
Sewald and Drew Steckenrider. Who
pitches will depend on the team and
where they are at in the lineup in the
last three innings coming up. Sewald
likely will face the middle of the lineup
whenever that takes place. One thing
for sure keep the other team guessing
who will be in there.

Seahawk news they released defensive
end Alton Smith. Not sure because of
his off the field trouble he has or the
depth at defensive end. I expect the
ladder. Injuries to the linebackers the
Seahawks signed Lakiem Williams
who played at Syracuse but a local
product from Spanaway Lake High
School. Whether Williams sticks
around or not he is welcome right
now.

The Seahawks and safety Jamal
Adams are close on the money
to resign him to a new contract
but how it all works out is still
at an impasse. Adams and his
representative along with the
Seahawks will take a couple
days off before resuming talks.
It looks like he eventually will
sign but when is the question.

The Seahawks have a number of
injuries at linebacker as well as
the offensive line along with a
few other players. It will be
interesting to see who plays on
Saturday in Las Vegas. We do
know quarterback Russell Wilson
will be in for at least part of the
game anyway. Go Hawks!
