Mariners Lose In Extra Innings

Rangers 5 Mariners 4

The Seattle Mariners had a good
start after the all-start break going
7-5 before heading on the last road
trip. The road trip they went 4-6
including winning two out of three
against the Tampa Bay Rays.

The Mariners have lost six straight
one run games something they had
success for most of the season. The
lack of offense has been the main
problem despite the bullpen giving
up some runs. The starting pitching
has done well for the most part though
it would be nice to go further in games.
The Mariners have lost the last couple
extra inning games as well.

The Mariners offense for most of the
game was made by Mitch Haniger
and Kyle Seager hitting back to back
solo home runs. The Rangers scored
a run before and after so heading into
the 9th inning the score 2-2. The
Ranger score a run on a home run off
of Paul Sewald. The Mariners were
able to even the game by scoring a
run in the bottom of the 9th though
had opportunity to win the game.

The Mariners the score now at 3-3
had the bases loaded with no outs
JP Crawford, Mitch Haniger and
Kyle Seager coming up to bat.
Crawford and Haniger both struck
out then Kyle Seager flied out to
right field. Spencer Patton starting
the 9th inning had walked three
batters you would have thought
Crawford and Haniger could have
had the discipline to walk or at
least hit the ball to the outfield
like Seager did.

Erik Swanson came in the 10th
inning continues to struggle of
late gave up two runs but then
the Mariners were able to get
one themselves. Swanson in his
last two appearances against the
Ranger including Tuesday night
he gave five runs and recorded
both as losses. Maybe time to
not pitch him in late games.

Right now Luis Torrens is in
midst of a batting slump going
one for twenty. Doing even
worse then he did before he
was sent to Tacoma after a
bad start in April and May.
The Mariners need to sit him
for a few days. Dylan Moore
since the grand slam against
the Houston Astros has gone
three for twenty. Those are
two example of players not
hitting well.

Logan Gilbert was back on
track Tuesday night giving up
two runs on five hits, no walks
while striking out five in six
innings. I would say not bad
at all. I look forward to next
season where Gilbert will be
able to go at least seven innings.

Tyler Anderson will make his
third start Wednesday night for
the Mariners. Anderson does
what he has in his previous two
starts he will give the Mariners
a chance to win. Let's hope the
offense can come alive.

Justus Sheffield was scratched
from a rehab assignment last
Sunday in Everett. He through
off the mound Tuesday with
good signs so likely will make
a rehab assignment this weekend.
When Sheffield does return not
sure he will be in the starting
rotation, however, the bullpen
could use him as a long reliever
or at least throw a couple innings
anyway. We wish his success.

Kyle Lewis about ready to take
batting practice so his return could
come in the next couple weeks.
Not sure whether he will go on
rehab assignment not sure. The
Mariners offense continues the
way it is his bat can be added
plus we hope. Go M's.

A look at the Seahawks the offensive
line has several injuries besides Duane
Brown not practicing because of contract
dispute. Marquise Blair who was the
nickel back before his injury in the second
game of the season is in competition with
Ugo Amadi who took his spot while he
was out. Right now not sure but the
competition between the two is good.

I will keep an eye for you on the Seahawks
on how the competition goes at other
positions as well.  Go Hawks!
