I have to say for the
game the Mariners had against the A’s on television Thursday was entertaining
if you like a game that scores a lot of runs. The final score was 13-12 with
Luis Sardinas hitting a grand slam home run for the Mariners. If he did not have
the job as the utility player before I think he likely sowed it up now. Though
I like both Chris Taylor and Shaw O’Malley however he is the best choice for
the Mariners.
I don’t think we still
have any idea who the fifth starter will be between Paxton and Karns since the
latter had a poor performance last night. Neither one has had solid spring
training. It looks like it will come down to both of their last starts next
week. I prefer that Paxton is the starter so they have two lefties in the
rotation. Actually if I had my way it would be a four man rotation at home and
five man on the road. This is especially true in April when there are several
days off in the month. Five man rotation makes more sense when they play twenty
days in a row later on. Also I think it can depend on the pitchers in the
rotation as well. If you see the history of the five man rotation the fifth man
almost always has a very poor record. Makes a difference if close at the end of
the season; remember the Mariners in 2014 missing the playoffs by one game.
The first base job
still is not settled yet though it looks like the odds of Jesus Montero being
there is pretty slight now. Probably go with Lee seeing how he will do in April
and Romero being down in Tacoma since he still has options. If Lee doesn’t work
out can bring up Romero. I am sure we will see some of Sardinas at first base
late in the games.
We should be seeing
transactions and players being sent down this weekend. Maybe Montero and Chris
Taylor could be traded for a relief pitcher since the Mariners could use
another one. I am sure the Mariners will be looking at the waiver wire as well.
Until next time Go Mariners!!!!
