We all know that
spring training doesn’t have a lot of meaning except for those who are fighting
for a job. James Paxton is one of those guys wanting to nail down a roster
spot. We all know it is between him and Karns. I do think he has the edge right
now.
Like I said in an
earlier post that I thought having another left hander in the starting rotation
would be a good idea. Really hard to say what Manager Servais is thinking right
now for that spot.
Though the Mariners lost
to the Los Angeles Dodger 8-4 in ten innings last night Paxton gave up only an
unearned run in four innings. Karns will be pitching today for the Mariners in
afternoon game against the Cincinnati Reds. We can hope that he has a really
good game to make this matchup good.
The Mariners sent down
seven players to the minor leagues leaving 51 players remaining. The Mariners
will need to be down to the 25 man roster on April 3. The Mariners first
regular season begins on April 4 against the Texas Rangers in Arlington, Texas.
First home game will be on April 8 against the Oakland A’s. More players will
probably be sent down during this week since minor league camp just started. Give
more detail and report tomorrow.
