Tampa Bay Takes Series

The Seattle Mariners had another rough game at home being shut out on Sunday 1-0, and being swept at the same time.

The Mariners started Sam Tuivailala as the opener for an inning before bringing on Wade LeBlanc.  Thought Yusei Kikuchi would start the game, however, the Mariners moved him back to Tuesday in Detroit against the Tigers after they have a day off.

LeBlanc pitched outstanding going six innings giving up five hits, but gave up a home run to second baseman Eric Sogard in the fourth inning. Sogard is hitting well on the season having a batting average of .307 for the Rays. It was his 13 home run on the season too. This is high for his career as well.

Eric Sogard the Rays acquired from the Toronto Blue Jays just before the trading deadline. He actually started the season in triple-A at Buffalo the Rays farm team. He came up in the middle of April. He has played ten games for the Rays.

Ryan Yarbrough almost went the distance for the Rays going eight and two-thirds innings before being lifted for Emilio Pagan. As you can understand Yarbrough was not happy for being lifted with two outs in the 9th. He had a chance for a shutout well as a complete game. He is a former Mariner farmhand while Pagan pitched for the Mariners.

The Mariners right now are 1-7 in the month of August. The only win was the second game against the San Diego Padres on Wednesday. I wonder the Mariners offense having trouble because they have had three off-days in August already.

The Mariners have Monday off as well on Monday before playing taking on the Detroit Tigers for three games before going on to Toronto for three games followed by three in Tampa Bay Rays. The Mariners will have their last off-day in August on the 22nd before facing the Blue Jays in Seattle and the New York Yankees too.

The Seattle Mariners say Felix Hernandez will make another rehab assignment in Everett. The date has not been made as of yet. Mitch Haniger and Braden Bishop will be headed this week to do a rehab assignment at high-level A Modesto. How many games they both will play hasn’t been determined but both guys have been out for a while. They may end their rehab assignment with Tacoma though.

We hope the Mariners can win some games in Detroit since they did sweep the Tigers in Seattle in their previous homestand. The importance is the Mariners can win some games while seeing improvement in their players the rest of the way.  Go M’s.
