Logan Gilbert Takes Care of Angels

 Mariners 7 Angels 4

Logan Gilbert continues to rule the
pitching mound this time his victim
was the LA Angels. Gilbert was
only able to go five and one-thirds
inning throwing almost one hundred
pitches.

Gilbert struck out nine Angels now
a career high while walking two.
The two walks were smart because
they were both to Ohtani. We have
to remember Gilbert is building up
his arm strength to.

At this point Gilbert might be the
only starter the Mariners can count
on though Chris Flexen is doing a
good job as well and we hope Kikuchi
and Gonzales both can be straighten
out. Gonzales we will know better
on Tuesday as he starts in Tuesday.

Gilbert gave up his two runs in the
sixth inning, however, the two runners
were on second and third base. JT
Chargois gave up a hit to score both
ones. He was able to hold the Angels
otherwise for an inning.

The Angels got there other two runs
when Paul Sewald gave up a home
run to Ohtani with a runner on base.
Other Ohtani he did a good job striking
out three batters. Ohtani's home run
was with two outs. Sewald didn't record
a save because he didn't come in a save
situation. Ohtani's home run was his
first hick up in a while so we can excuse
him and the Mariners still won by three.
I will take that everyday.

Ty France was the player of the game
having three hits on the night including
a three-run homer in the 5th inning. An
inning earlier Luis Torrens hit his 10th
home run on the season. He now is the
third Mariners with at least ten home
runs following Mitch Haniger and Kyle
Seager.

In the 8th inning Mitch Haniger was hit
by a pitch then on the next pitch Ty France
was hit in the head area. A bit scary but
turned out to be ok and stayed in the game.
I am sure he was checked out further after
the game.

Jake Fraley went on the injured list for
testing positive to covid-19. He will be
out for probably two weeks I guess.
The Mariners brought up outfielder Dillon
Thomas who had been up earlier in the
season. Jake Bauers started in left field
but Thomas came in as late inning
replacement. I hope Thomas will have
a chance to play since he is a much better
defensive player then either Shed Long Jr
or Jake Bauers. Both players will have a
chance to play some anyway when Mitch
Haniger will need a day off in the field
and the same goes for Jarred Kelenic.

The Mariners have Monday off so Haniger
and Kelenic should be on the field on
Tuesday in Colorado. Kelenic had another
hit on Sunday. Cal Raleigh had the day off
since the Mariners had a day game. He
should be back in at catcher on Tuesday.
Raleigh has done a good job behind the
plate calling pitches along with blocking
most of the balls so now we hope he can
get his first major league hit. Playing in
Colorado will give him a good chance.

On Monday we will look at more Mariner
prospects along with any other local sports
news. Go M's.
