Mariners Go To Anaheim To Start Second Half

News came out on the Mariners on
Thursday on KIRO 710 radio who
carry all the teams games. Jerry
Dipoto was asked directly by host
Paul Gallant whether Jarred Kelenic
be starting the second half on the
Mariners beginning Friday and the
answer was yes. Paul was very excited.

The question now is whose spot will Kelenic
take. The Mariners have only two other
outfielders on the roster in Mitch Haniger
and Jake Fraley so won't be either of them.

The Mariners have ten relievers, however,
Hector Santiago is being suspended for
ten days which we all know is ridiculous
so leaves nine. The Mariners have gone
with eight relievers for the most part in
previous seasons so a logical spot to
take away a pitcher.

The problem though they have only four
starters  right now until Justin Dunn comes
back which could be today or soon as well
so he would take a reliever away which makes
seven if they already take one now.

The two reliever choices would be to release
Rafael Montero or send down Yohan Ramirez.
Neither is being used except in mop up role.
I am sure I know who be choose by most
Mariner fans.

The Mariners called up Cal Raleigh last weekend
so he won't be going anywhere but now they
have three catchers. Luis Torrens has done a
good job since returning from Tacoma and
there is Tom Murphy as well. Although he
isn't doing as well as in 2019 do they release
him?

Now we look at the infield. The two main
players there to release or send down are
Jake Bauers who has done a good job since
the Mariners have acquired him from Cleveland
or Shed Long Jr. who doesn't have a high
batting average however has contributed in
good ways. Both players can and have played
the outfield so when Haniger goes to dh or
Fraley and Kelenic need a day off or dh they
can play there.

The question is how injured is Kyle Seager.
He was hurt over the last weekend. He would
be the logical position player to go or for that
matter keeping nine relievers until Santiago
returns. So if Seager isn't 100 percent healthy
I would put him on the injured list. How does
that sound?

In other sports news former Seahawk Richard
Sherman was released from jail without bail
on Thursday however he has an appearance
before a judge on Friday. It will be interesting
to see how the judge looks at the situation well
as the prosecuting attorney. Sherman's wife
says he needs help so we will see how strong
that goes with judge and the prosecutor. Stay
tuned. Oh by the way training camp starts on
January 28 for the Seahawks so less then two
weeks.
