Sheffield Exits Early As Mariners Lose

 Yankees 12 Mariners 1

Pitching: As you can see by the score
the Mariners pitching wasn't too good
against the Yankees Tuesday night.
We hope this will be it for the Yankees
in the series. Justus Sheffield who has
struggled throughout the season got
off to a horrible start.

The Yankees had two hits right off
the bat (sorry for pun) catcher Gary
Sanchez the only Yankee without
a hit on the night he was an out then
Giancarlo Stanton hit a home run
to make it 3-0. I suppose it was too
early but Sheffield exit should have
happened right there for the Mariners
to have any chance. Sheffield gave
up two more hits, had three walks along
with three more runs. Should that be
it for Sheffield for now in the starting
rotation. Should he be sent to triple-A
to figure things out or the bullpen?

Hector Santiago who still isn't suspended
until finishes the appeal came in for
Sheffield. Santiago didn't do much better
giving up seven hits three runs in three
and a third innings. Sometimes it is hard
to stop the bleeding in a game like this.
At least he was able to go long enough
not use up another pitcher. Will Vest
came in doing a good job which he has
had trouble doing in several outings
before went two innings gave up one
hit, no runs, and striking out three.
Rafael Montero who had done well
in his previous couple relief appearances
gave up a three-run homer in the eighth
inning but finished off the game.

Hitting wise: The Mariners scoring only
one run will tell you a lot right here. The
Mariners had five hits on the night. Ty
France had two of those hits and drove
in the one run. Not much else to say
except France continues to hit well.

Wednesday night Yusei Kikuchi goes
for the Mariners against the Yankees.
We hope for the kind of pitching he
has done which has put Kikuchi into
the all-star game. It certainly be good
to go into Thursday's day game with
a 1-1 series. We can't let the Yankee
fans get anything more at T-Mobile
Park.

Mariner outfielder prospect Julio
Rodriguez has gotten off to a good
start at double-A Arkansas. After
Tuesday's night game he is hitting
.348. In this game he was intentionally
walked twice so you can see he is
already getting respect in the league.
He was one for two besides the walks.

The all-star game will be next Tuesday.
When the break is over you wonder
how many changes to the roster might
happen. I guess it could depend on
how they do finishing up against the
Yankees then the LA Angels. Could
we see Jarred Kelenic again along with
catcher Cal Raleigh?  How soon will
Jerry Dipoto pull off a trade. One thing
we do know they could use a starting
pitcher.

We often seen the Mariners go into
a tail spin right about this time. I just
hope it isn't this year. Go M's.
