starters with injuries. Erik Swanson
started again as the opener Saturday
evening. Like his previous start as
the opener Swanson did well but
the bullpen in the end cost the
Mariners a win in the end.
Actually it was more than the
bullpen in the 8th inning catcher
Luis Torrens thought there was
a force play at home. Torrens
threw the ball to first base with
his foot on the plate, however,
the runner scored because there
was no force play. The catcher
would have nailed the runner
had he turned around and put
his glove down.
The bullpen had their issues
during the game. Ljay Newsome
who came in for Erik Swanson
had to leave the game with a
sore arm along with surrendering
three runs. I thought Scott Servais
should have taken him out before
the batter he faced causing his
exit. We will see how Newsome
is Sunday and whether he has
to go on the injured list.
Kenyan Middleton had to go on
the injured list after having to leave
a game. Hopefully the rest will do
him good and he will be back soon.
We need to see Marco Gonzales
back to since the opener isn't working.
Swanson has done a good job opening
however the bullpen especially late
in the game isn't.
Evan White had a good game hitting a
two-run homer in the second inning
and later a double driving in another
run. Hopefully, a good run for White.
The game ended when a Mariner hit
dropped into left field and the ball
got away from the outfielder. Kyle
Lewis tried to score from first however
was tagged at the plate to end the game.
Had to take the chance since there were
two outs and the Mariners were down
by one when Lewis rounded third base.
Justus Sheffield takes the mound Sunday
afternoon to finish the series then the
Mariners head for LA to take on the
Dodgers Tuesday and Wednesday. Justin
Dunn will start Tuesday while Yusei
Kikuchi goes on Wednesday.
