Mariners End April Well

The Seattle Mariners had a four-game
losing streak on the road in Boston and
Houston, however, ended the month of
April on a good note.

After having an outstanding performance
from Yusei Kikuchi on Thursday night
in Houston to end the four game losing
streak the first game against the Angels
wasn't anything like it. Chris Flexen who
had an outstanding pitching performance
in his last outing only went four innings.
The Angels started Andrew Heaney only
went three and one-third innings.

The Angels scored two runs in the first
inning including a home run by Shohei
Ohtani who was at designated hitter.
The Mariners don't have to face Ohtani
on the mound in this series. We can
wonder how good the Mariners would
be having him in the lineup.

The Mariners scored a run in the first
four innings which included a home
run by Mitch Haniger in the first
followed by Dylan Moore in the second
and Tom Murphy in the fourth.

Chris Flexen whose pitching wasn't close
to he had in his last game gave up three
runs with two in the first and one in the
third. He lasted only four innings. The
Mariners scored a run in the sixth inning
and put the game for the most part out of
reach in the 8th inning when JP Crawford
and Tom Murphy  both hit doubles to
score two runs.

Three of the Mariners relievers did an
outstanding job beginning with Drew
Steckenrider went two innings striking
out three. Those three didn't give up
a hit in four innings. Rafael Montero
who has struggled at times pitched the
9th inning giving up two hits and allowing
one run making the final score 7-4.

It was nice seeing Mitch Haniger back in
the game after missing two games. Also,
Dylan Moore and Tom Murphy each
having two hits after having a terrible
month of April hitting for the most part.
We hope that is a good sign for May.

The Mariners put Evan White on the
bereavement list so he will be gone
for the next several days. The Mariners
activated catcher Jacob Nottingham
they acquired a few days on waivers
from the Milwaukee Brewers. Murphy
was dh in this game while Luis Torren
was catching. This allows the Mariners
do this in case they do need a catcher
in case of injury. Ty France played
first base in the place of White.

The Mariners announced on Friday
the rosters of their minor leagues
begin in May. Three of the Mariners
top prospects will begin their season
in Tacoma in outfielder Jarred Kelenic,
catcher Cal Raleigh and pitcher Logan
Gilbert. We should expect the three of
them in Seattle at some point of the
2021 season.

The Everett Aquasox now class A
full season will have Julio Rodriguez
outfielder along with the last two number
one draft picks in Emerson Hancock and
George Kirby. This roster is stacked
with several of the Mariners most recent
draft picks. Have a chance be good to go
up and see them play.

The Modesto Nuts will have another
top prospect in shortstop Noelvi Marte,
Most of the roster is not many prospects
you would heard of. Double-A Arkansas
who in 2019 was full of prospects to
don't have many top prospects either,
We will have to see who comes out
to make their way up the system.

In the NFL draft Washington's Elijah
Molden was taken by the Tennessee
Titans in the third round and the 100th
overall pick. Something easy for him
to remember. He became the Huskies
third pick in the draft,

The Washington State Cougars so far
haven't had a player taken in the draft,
We will have to see any will be chosen
on the third and final day with rounds
four thru seven take place, The Seahawks
have a pick in the fourth and seventh
rounds, We will have to see what the
Seahawks will do to add any more
picks or just leave it at three total,
