Come on Mariners

Right now the Seattle Mariners are winning a game and then losing one. They are unable to get untrack to win at least a couple games in a row.

I know most Mariner fans would like to see them win at least two in a row on a consistent basis. If they can win two out of three in a series along with three out five during a week or four out of six.

Right now the Oakland A’s are playing good ball and are right on the Mariners tail. I know that Lloyd and the players are probably not concerned about it but I am sure us fans do not want to see the Mariners fall into fifth place. It is much harder to go over four teams than three.

This weekend the Mariners will be playing the Angels on the road so it would be nice to win at least two out of the three games that way they can at least gain one game on the Angels.

Though it would be nice if the Mariner could get to .500 at the all-star break I would like them to at least play a little above the mark until then. This would give us all hope for the second half of the season. I am sure most Mariner fans do not want to go over and spend time on the Seahawks until the regular season starts. I certainly know I do not.

We do have hope because this week Robinson Cano is starting to hit well. I don’t want use words like he is heating up now; however, the Mariners will do better with Cano having a hot bat. Of course, it would be nice if Nelson Cruz can get hot once again along with Kyle Seager.

Some good news happened on June 24 where Franklin GutiĆ©rrez was brought up from Triple A and added to the roster. Manager Lloyd said because of the left handed pitcher they will now be facing. I am sure most of us like the idea because Guti is a fan favorite especially with the ladies; however, he could lead leadership to the team as well even when he isn’t playing.

Over the weekend the Mariners added another fan favorite in Edgar Martinez as hitting coach. According to Lloyd his major job will be working with Mike Zunino. The catcher needs to be able to hit consistently or at least over .200. What he has is power in his bat where he can hit to all fields like Edgar did and Nelson Cruz does. He should not be concerned in hitting home runs because they will come as long as he gets contact and stops striking out so much.

The starting pitching is at least consistent though King Felix has had his up and downs the last few weeks. He seems to be like the hitters where he is for facing top pitchers but not so much against other ones. It looks to me the whole team needs to focus more. If the starting pitchers can go into the seventh inning or further at least three games time through the five man rotation it would allow the team to be in games. It is nice the bullpen has straightened itself out as well. They are about par on last season except with Fernando Rodney.

With today June 25 as an off day it would be great for the players to work on things to get better. The most important for them is to focus like they do against number one starters of the opposition. We can all hope for a successful road trip as well. Go Mariners!
