Preview of the Huskies and Cougars Games

In my opinion the Apple Cup last Sunday
did look like an opening.game for both
teams so another week next time would
be better.

This Saturday the Washington Huskies
are home against Utah State who is
now a member of the Pac-12.  The game
is the same time as the Apple Cup was.

Usually teams like the Huskies play a
team that isn't very good to say the least.
This is the case with Utah State. The
Huskies are favored around 27 points
which is high for a team that didn't play
their best ball in their opener.

At half time of the Apple Cup head coach
Jedd Fisch was not very happy with their
running game. I would say that the passing
from Desmond Williams Jr wasn't that great
either until the 4th quarter.  On social media
the Huskies fans were not very happy with
his play calling. Let's see how that goes
this time.

On Monday Fisch announced that both
the starting and number two running backs
were injured in the Apple Cup so that gives
more of a challenge as they both be out for
a while. At least playing a soft team will
allow the running game to see how much
improvement is this week with different
running backs. The improvement will have
to come from the offensive line.

We were not able to see how good the
receivers were until late in the game so
we hope better things from Desmond
this week in the throwing the ball.

It won't be good for Utah State since
the Huskies have a good defense which
they showed in the Apple Cup so we
could see some turnovers since the
Cougars had some against the Huskies.

Speaking of the Cougars, they play in
the midmorning Pacific time at Kansas
State. Again they are playing on the
road. The Cougars are better than Utah.
State though KSU is favored by almost
as many points as the Huskies are.

Although Cougars will likely not win
need to see improvement from the
Cougars offense. Almost three quarters
of the Apple Cup the Cougars running
and passing game were not good. I
am sure the Huskies defense had a lot
to do with it.

I am sure replacing Pinnick was in the
minds of the Cougars fans at least.
They did change tactics in the 4th
quarter where Pinnick actually ran the
ball with some success. The trouble
was having turnovers when passing
the ball. I would say that the Cougars
begin with running Pinnick in this
game. This might allow them to have
more room for the running backs as
well as passing to the receivers.

The Cougars defense showed better
than expected against the Huskies
for basically with new players and
coaching staff for sure. Now we see
if the defense can keep them below
what the point spread is. Of course
if the offense can put the defense
in good position to do so like making
KSU go on the long field and keep
the turnovers to a minimum.

In both games we hope better results
no matter who wins. Go Dawgs and Go
Cougs.
