Mariners Make A Deal

We have heard for much of the off season
the Mariners were looking trade for
infielder Brendon Donovan. Well it
happened on Monday.

The Mariners gave up third baseman
Ben Williamson to the Tampa Bay
Rays in the three team deal.  So does
that mean Donovan will start at third
or will it mean Colt Emerson. We will
see by the time spring training is over.
We wish the talented defensive third
baseman Williamson will do well in
Tampa.

The Cardinals end up getting starting
pitcher and first round pick in 2024
Jurrangelo Cijntje and outfielder
Tai Peete. Neither of them would have
cracked the Mariners roster any time
soon.

Donovan is a solid hitter and plays
good defense. He will likely hit
around 15 home runs and bat .275
or higher. He is versatile to play
second or third. Emerson could
be at third or shortstop.

Donovan is a left handed bat
just like Cole Young and Colt
Emerson so it won't be like
the three will platoon but
Donovan could give each a
day off. He might even play
the outfield on occasion.

JP Crawford is in his final season
and can be a free agent after this
season. How he does will determine
whether he returns or not. JP is
31 years old so he could have a few
good years remaining. We will see.
Go M's.

Mariners and Seahawks 2026

We know the Seahawks are going
to the Super Bowl next Sunday.
The winner likely will be the one
who plays the best defense and
the least turnovers. Also the
special teams will play a big part
too.

The Mariners begin spring training
four days after the Super Bowl.
Last year the Mariners missed
the World Series by one swing.
This year we are hoping a special
year they play and win the World
Series.

Having two teams make it to
the top of their sport in the
same year is very special.
Go Hawks and Mariners!

Rick Rizz announced that he
will retire after this season as
the play by play man on radio.
Let him go out on a good note.

Eugenio Suarez Signs With Reds

Eugenio Suarez who the Seattle Mariners
traded for at the trading deadline to
the Seattle Mariners for his second
duty and help them do to the 7th
game of the SL Championship series
became a free agent.

There was talk whether he would resign
with the Mariners however closer to
spring training which is less than two
weeks he ended up signing a one year
deal with the Cincinnati Reds for one
year for $15 million.

With the Reds he is expected to be
the dh however could play third
base or maybe first base on occasion.
The Reds who the Mariners picked
them up from the first time he came
to Seattle.

The Mariners for the most part will
have a right handed and left handed
dh.  When they give Cal Raleigh a
day off mostly against a lefty he
will dh. How often not knowing right
now though likely once a week. Later
in the season the Mariners will rest
him occasion and use him as a pinch
hitter. He has shown the last two or
three seasons he is the teams best
pinch.

On Saturday President of Baseball
Operations Jerry Dipoto at Fan Fest
hinted of sorts that Colt Emerson
and Ben Williamson could play on
at third base.  He certainly would like
Colt Emerson to make the team out
of spring training. The Mariners
could still make a trade right before
spring training too. Might sign
a free agent infielder at less
cost than Eugenio as well.

My thought is depending on how
the season goes the Mariners
could bring Eugenio back in
August and that could depend
on the Reds and Mariners. They
have traded with each a lot of
times.

Whether JP Crawford bounces
back or not we may see Emerson
at shortstop as well. Stay tuned.
Go M's.

Gonzaga Beats St. Mary's

The two best teams collided Saturday
night in Spokane  with Gonzaga beating
St. Mary's 73-65 in men's basketball.

The game was tight through much
of the game. The Zags pulled away
halfway in the second half going on
an 8-0 run.

Graham Ike who had missed several
games for the Zags scored 30 points.
He was 11 of 20 from the field including
three 3point shots.

The Zags shot 46.6 from the field while
St. Mary's shot 34 percent. St. Mary's
made ten more free throws than them.
Zags to keep them in the game.

The Zags are now 10-0 in West Coast Conference play while St. Mary's is
third at 8-2.  Santa Clara is second
at 10-1. There only loss was against
the Zags.

The Zags play Portland this coming
Wednesday in Portland. Go Zags.
