More Look At Mariners Positions

Now that the Mariners have gotten
their guy  Brendan Donovan from
the St.Louis Cardinals the bench
might look different.

The Mariners didn't sign free agent
Eugenio Suarez and Ben Williamson
went to Tampa Bay. This likely means
that Cole Young and Colt Emerson
both be on the team. Donovan might
be the super utility player. He hits
left handed just like Young and
Emerson. So the Mariners may use
him at 2nd or 3rd depending on
the pitcher and how both are hitting.

Besides the backup catcher and
Donovan the Mariners will have
three bench players.  Rob Resynder
a right handed bat can play outfield
and play first base if they want to
give Josh Naylor a game off.

This leaves two more bench spots.
The thought is Dominic Canzone
would be the dh against righties.
Resynder will be against lefties
unless Cal Raleigh is at dh. The
Mariners will need a right handed
bat infielder so that would be Leo
Rivas or Ryan Bliss. They could both
play third , second and shortstop.
Rivas is actually a switchhitter.
That means no room for Luke Raley.
This would mean the Mariners
would trade him or possibly Canzone
or that Canzone start the season at
Tacoma.

Donovan is expected to be the leadoff
hitter so Cal bat second followed by
Julio at third. Josh Naylor would bat
at cleanup. Randy Arozarena bat 5th.
Victor Robles bat 6th.  Canzone if on
the team or Raley bat 7th or Resynder.
JP Crawford at 8th with Young or
Emerson at 9th.  Go Mariners
