Gilbert One hits Yankees

 Mariners 4 Yankees 0

Logan Gilbert the Mariners best young
pitcher to arrive in Seattle since Felix.
Thursday he showed he must be.

Gilbert went seven innings allowed
only two runners on base giving up
one hit and hitting a batter. Gilbert
had 18 straight batters not to reach
first base. That is six straight innings.

Gilbert struck out eight batters and
not allowing a walk. His fastball
averages 99 miles per hour. Also,
he has a very good slider and he
is working on a change up which
was good on the day to left handed
hitters. Wait until he feels comfortable
throwing it against right handers as
well and then he has a curve ball too.

Gilbert was drafted by the Mariners
in 2018. He didn't pitch in the minor
leagues until 2019 where he pitched
for three teams in 26 games. Gilbert
went 135 innings striking out 165
batters while walking 33.  In 2020
Gilbert wasn't able to pitch because
covid-19. This year he pitched 1
game in Tacoma before coming up.
This was his 10th start he has 3-2
record with era of 3.51. Every game
he gets better. What is he going to
do next time.

The Mariners offense was just five
hits with all runs contributed by
home runs. Kyle Seager hit a
solo home runs in the first inning
then Dylan Moore a two-run homer
in the second. This is how the score
stood until Mitch Haniger had a
solo home run in the 8th inning.
Luis Torrens had a hit before
Moore's home run and Haniger
had the other hit besides his
home run and the homer by
Kyle Seager. What a day!

The Mariners now take on the
LA Angels in Seattle before
the all-star break. Next Friday
they will start the second half
beginning with the Angels this
time in Anaheim.

Marco Gonzales will start on
Friday followed by Chris Flexen
on Saturday. Not sure who will
start on Sunday. Also, we won't
know who will start a week from
tomorrow in Anaheim yet either.

I am sure the Mariners will look
forward to having a few days
off next week. Go M's.
