Angels 7 Mariners 1
This game was confusing to me.
The Mariners scored their lonely
run in the first inning. JP Crawford
scored on a sacrifice fly by France.
David Fletcher hit a home run in
the third inning off of opener Hector
Santiago to tie the score. In the 5th
inning the Mariners brought in
Yohan Ramirez to pitch in a tie
situation. Ramirez hadn't pitched
in eight days so he is going to be
rusty no matter how many times
he throws on the side lines so why
put him in this situation. He gives
up two runs. The Mariners are
down 4-1 going into the ninth
inning. The chances are good they
won't do a comeback but they put
Rafael Montero in to pitch and
he of course gives up three more
runs.
It sounds and looks like the Mariners
offense was flat on the day but why
not try to win the game anyway. This
is how I look at it.
Jerry Dipoto said the Mariners will now
go with a fiveman rotation the rest of the
way because innings pitched for the
starters are going fine. I wish they had
started this before now.
So let's see who the five starters are right
now. We have Yusei Kikuchi, Chris Flexen,
Marco Gonzales, Logan Gilbert and hopefully
Justin Dunn when the all-start break is over.
Justus Sheffield is on the injured list and
sounds like he will be there for a while. If
Dunn isn't ready go with an opener for now.
The first pick in the major league draft, the
Mariners took Harry Ford at number 12 in
the first round. Ford is listed as a catcher
which he played at his high school. This is
the Mariners first high school player picked
in the first round since Jerry Dipoto has
been general manager. Scott Hunter mentioned
in his press conference before the draft the
Mainers could be going for a high school
player this time around primarily because of
covid. How they were scouting players was
different then they have done in the past.
There is a good possibility Harry Ford will
not be staying at catcher. He said he had
played third base well as the outfield in
high school, however, his team needed him
at catcher. Oh by the way he is out of Georgia.
He is know for being very athletic so won't
be a big surprise if he is moved from the
catching spot. Cal Raleigh the Mariners
future catcher or maybe more present as
he made his Mariner debut Sunday. Raleigh
didn't get a hit but did look good at the plate
and he had to deal with seven pitchers behind
the plate.
The Mariners sent Taylor Trammell back down
to triple-A Tacoma. They not only brought
Raleigh up they did Donovan Walton as well.
Yusei Kikuchi went on injured list for covid
but it looks like just for the day so he will be
going to the the all-star game after all which
is a good thing since no other Mariner was
going to take his spot. Walton will have to
go back down unless Kyle Seager who didn't
play on Sunday. According to manger Scott
Servais it sounds serious though it didn't
seem like Seager was going to be out long.
Have to see whether Seager goes on the
injured list or not.
Tuesday we will look at who the Mariners
draft on Monday as well as the next list
of top prospects. Anything else happens
in local sports mention it too. Have a good
day.
