Mariners Draft Picks So Far

The Mariners draft Harry Ford out of Georgia
in the first round. He played mostly catcher in
the high school, however, the Mariners could
have Ford play the outfield or the infield.

The Mariners taking nine more picks
on Monday followed by ten more on Tuesday
making 20 picks on all

#2 Edwin Arroyo from Puerto Rico, however,
he played his high school ball in Florida. He
is expected to stick at shortstop. Arroyo is a
switch-hitter where there is word he hits
differently from each side of the plate. Be
the athlete he is Arroyo also did some pitching
but his bat too much. The Mariners don't have
a lot of depth at shortstop. At least who are
expected to play it in the major leagues. #5
prospect Noelvi Marte the Mariners are
expecting to make him a third baseman or
move to the outfield.

#3 Michael Morales right handed pitcher a
high school from Pennsylvanian. There is
word that there is a lot of talent in his state
and he is at the top as far as arms go in
pitching. Morales was projected to go any
where from third to tenth round so the Mariners
did a good job there. He had a commitment
to Vanderbilt  which has had some pretty good
players coming out of there. The Mariners
have drafted the last three years pretty good
talent out of colleges so Morales takes his
time Ok is how I see it.

#4 Bryce Miller right handed pitcher out of
Texas A&M. He was the second pitcher taken
from Texas A&M. His teammate Dustin Snaez
was taken by the Washington Nationals one
ahead of the Mariners. Miller spend some time
as a long reliever well as starting. Being chosen
this high in the draft I am sure he will be a
starter unless they decide to chose to make him
a reliever. Miller was a teammate of the Mariners
number two pick  outfielder Zach DeLoach. Be
nice to see a familiar face.

#5 Andy Thomas catcher from Baylor. He is
considered one of the top college catchers.
Thomas had 11 home runs along with 24 rbi's
and .337 batting average. Likely Thomas will
stay at the catchers position.

#6 Bryan Woo right handed pitcher out of
Cal Poly. In college Woo has primarily been
used as a reliever.

#7 Colin Davis right-handed outfielder out
of Worrford college in South Carolina. Colin
was named player of the year in Southern
Conference.

#8 James Parker shortstop Clemson University.
Mariners now have taken two shortstops so
this will add depth for sure in the minor leagues.

#9 Spencer Packard outfielder left-handed hitting
right-handed throwing out Campbell University
in North Carolina. Spencer is the oldest of the
Mariners draft picks so far at 23years old. His
senior year was his best as well where he had
11 home runs 67 rbi's and .371 batting average.

#10 Jordan Jackson right-handed pitcher out
of Georgia Southern. Not a lot on Jordan except
he did pitch some relief as well as starting at
Georgia Southern. Like a number of players
ahead of him even those drafted by the Mariners
this year may have been picked last year if it
were not for covid and there were less draft picks.

Recap: the Mariners drafted four pitchers, two
catchers, two shortstops and two outfielders. This
year the Mariners decided to go with the best
player available instead of need like in prior
years. The abundance of pitchers picked over
the last three years the Mariners didn't necessarily
have to go with as many pitchers. Tomorrow
the Mariners will have ten more picks to choose
so we will see whether they go with more pitchers
then in the first ten picks. Stay tuned.

Other Mariner news: Will Vest was designated
for assignment. As  a rule 5 player he could go
back to his previous team, another team could
pick him up on waivers or Vest could go to
triple-A Tacoma. Vest had a good start at the
beginning of the season but since returning
from the injured list because of covid he hasn't
pitched as well. We wish Vest the best wherever
he lands. Yusei Kikuchi was reactivated after
being on the injured list for covid for one day.
Donavon Walton was sent back down to Tacoma.
Right now this means Kyle Seager must be
doing better. We will probably have more news
on it at the end of the all-star break. Julio
Rodriguez got great news his father showed
up to see him play at the futures game. It was
the first time his father see him play in the
United States. Go M's.
