Mariners 9 Blue Jays 7 10 innings
trying to get over the .200 barrier won
the game with a three-run homer. He
has found ways to be effective on
occasions. Moore and JP Crawford
were the only ones with three hits.
Though Crawford didn't have any
rbi's he did score twice.
Kyle Seager and Mitch Haniger each
had two-run homers. Seager's helped
the Mariners take a 4-1 lead in the
top of the third inning, however,
Toronto scored twice in the bottom
of the third then tied it in the fourth.
Haniger's home run put them ahead
by two but pitching couldn't hold it.
Pitching: Justus Sheffield continued
to struggle coming out of the gate
to speak. Though he only had given
up one run in the first three innings
he wasn't doing well either having
runners on base. My thought they
should have taken Sheffield out in
after the third inning. It would have
only been luck if he could have held
the lead.
If Sheffield deserves a shot to stay
in the starting rotation which is
questionable though the Mariners
don't really have anyone to take his
spot right now. If I were manager
Scott Servais I would use Sheffield
as though he is an opener. Have
a reliever available early on in the
game. Had the team done so in this
game the Mariners may have won the
game easier. At least they are good
in extra innings now at 9-1.
The Mariners and Blue Jays play
afternoon game. It is Canada Day
though they are playing in Buffalo
for home games since the border
is closed. I am sure there will be
fans tuning to their TV or radio.
Yusei Kikuchi starts Thursday
afternoon. Being the Mariners
best starter up to now on the
season gives the Mariners a
good shot at winning the series.
Now that we are in July it is
time to speculate who the
Mariners may trade or pick
up by the trading deadline
at the end of the month. One
likelihood is trading Mitch
Haniger or Kyle Seager. I
would say Haniger could
get some good prospects
back in return. Hard to know
about Seager. Trading him
would be to get any return
before next season when the
Mariners are not expected to
pickup his option, however he
is traded then becomes a
player option. Hey Dodgers
you want another Seager
especially if you want to
keep the other one. Corey
Seager is expected to be
a free agent after the season
unless the Dodgers sign him
to a new contract first. They
could trade him as well but
likely won't happen.
The Mariners make a trade
another starting pitcher would
be nice along with a second
baseman. If they do trade
Kyle Seager a young and
upping coming third baseman
be good to. Go M's.
