home cooking and the Texas Rangers pitching.
Unfortunately they have to go back on the road
after Sunday's game.
Before forgetting anything else Justus Sheffield
pitched another outstanding game giving up one
run in six innings, six hits, one walk and striking
out five.
Sheffield could have gone another inning easily
however the Mariners were leading 8-1 at the
time so why not give others a chance. The Mariners
ended up with final score 10-1.
Evan White was back after a couple days off
because of an injury caused by being hit on his
body at the plate. The time off certainly did him
good as he hit a double and a home run while
driving a major league career six home runs.
We learned before the game Dylan Moore will
miss a little time going on the injured list with
a sore wrist. The Mariners brought up outfielder
Jake Fraley from extended training camp.
Fraley started in right field. It looks like he and
Braden Bishop will share the spot for a while
though could see both in the lineup at times.
He had a double in the game.
Kyle Lewis who looks like he will win rookie
of the year continued to hit and get on base.
He had three hits, walked twice and scored three
times.
Austin Nola continues to hit well too. He had three
hits on the night. He was back at catcher after spending
a couple days at first base.
Joey Gerber came in the seventh inning for Sheffield.
He gave a hit but no runs. Aaron Fletcher made his
major league debut giving up no hits in an inning.
He was followed by veteran pitcher Yoshihisa Hirano
making his Mariner and season debut. He finished off
the Rangers in the ninth inning giving up a hit but
struck out two.
Sunday afternoon Justin Dunn will be pitching for
the Mariners against the Rangers. Dunn has struggled
keeping pitches over the plate so we hope he can do
a better job this time. It would be nice if the Mariners
can sweep the Rangers before heading back out of
town. Go M's.
