Seattle Mariners Sweep Texas Rangers

It was so nice to see the Mariners beat the
Texas Rangers 4-1 Sunday afternoon to sweep
the series.

The Mariners got their best outing from Justin
Dunn on the season. He only gave up one hit
in six innings. A big improvement was only
walking one batter while striking out six.

If this is the kind of pitching we will get out
of Dunn in the future the Mariners will be
in good shape.

The Mariners scored the four runs all by the
long ball. It started with Kyle Lewis solo
home run in the first inning. Catcher Austin
Nola had a solo home run  in the second inning
and left fielder Sam Haggerty who has started
out well this week had a two-run homer in
the fifth inning with Braden Bishop on base.

Bishop started in right field as the Rangers
started lefty Mike Minor who hasn't gotten
off to a good start now being 0-5 with an
era 6.75.

The Mariners showed in the series the
Rangers have weakness in their starting
pitching. The Mariners scored 21 runs
on the Rangers. 16 of the runs were off
of the Rangers starters.

The Mariners are in 4th place in the
American League West a half game
behind the Rangers while they are
a game and a half ahead of the Angels.
The Oakland A's continue to be in
first place with a 20-9 record. The
Mariners are nine and a half games
behind the A's. The Mariners are
at the half way point of this shorten
season at 11-19.

The Mariners have Monday off,
they start a three game series against
the Padres in San Diego on Tuesday.
They finish the month of August
playing the LA Angels four games
in Anaheim.

The Mariners start September with
three games at home against the
 Oakland A's followed by four
 against the Rangers once
again. This will be the last series
on the season against the Rangers.
