While the Seattle Seahawks prepare for their opening game of
the season on Sunday at home against the Cincinnati Bengals the Green Bay
Packers take on rival Chicago Bears on Fox TV.
So if you can’t wait until Sunday watch it.
The Seahawks did some maneuvering with the 53-man roster after
the initial roster moves on August 31. The Seahawks didn’t have a backup quarterback
then they added Geno Smith back a couple days later. Jaron Brown figures to be
the number two wide receiver was released as well but returned the same day as
Smith. The purpose so their contracts wouldn’t be guaranteed for the season.
Tyler Lockett is the Seahawks number one wide receiver. #2
draft pick this year DK Metcalf is shown as the number two, however, he likely
won’t be ready to play in the opening game. David Moore listed as the backup to
Metcalf likely won’t play in the game either because of injury to his funny
bone of all places. Gary Jennings
another rookie is listed behind Metcalf and Moore. It is hard to know whether
he starts or not.
Jaron Brown is listed as the second receiver behind Tyler
Lockett on his side. I expect he would start and Jennings comes in on the third
receiver set. Malik Turner and John
Ursua is listed three and four behind Lockett. We will have to see how much
action both of them play. Only Lockett and Brown have played in an NFL game so
it would not surprise me to see some of the backups.
Duane Brown is listed as the starter at left tackle with
Jamarco Jones being his backup. Brown is an all-pro so Jones won’t see much
action at left tackle unless Brown is hurt or he may come in as a third tight
end on rushing plays. George Fant listed as the backup to German Ifedt as the
right tackle played the spot last year but he has played limited action during
pre-season because of injury.
Mike Lupati is listed as the left guard; however, he is
limited by injury as well so Ethan Pocic listed as his backup could start there.
Pocic is listed as the backup at both guard spots as well as number three at
center. Joey Hunt listed as the backup
center to Justin Britt could swing over to left guard as well. DJ Fluker is
listed as the starting right guard. He has a history of injury problems so
wouldn’t surprise me see a lot of Ethan Pocic playing there.
Former Washington Husky Will Dissly is listed as the Seahawks
number one tight end with veteran Nick Vannett at number two. Dissly missed
most of last year so the Seahawks will take it easy with him during the early
part of the season but the Seahawks do often go with two tight ends often.
At running back will be Chris Carson starting with Rashaad
Penny at number two. Though Carson is starting Penny will see a lot of action
as well. CJ Prosise who has had a lot of injury problems over his years with
the Seahawks did make the roster this year after having too good games in the
last two pre-season games. He had to do so if he wanted to stick around. Though
Carson and Penny will be used on the third down when it looks for the team to
bring Prosise in as well. Rookie Travis Homer is listed as the fourth running
back; however, most of his playing time will be on special teams. The same goes
for Nick Bellore listed as the Seahawks only fullback on the team.
Before Sunday I will go over the depth chart on the Seahawks
defense. Enjoy the game tonight between the Packers and Bears. Go Hawks!
