Those who left watching the game early the Mariners blew a
7-0 lead. The Mariners scored five runs in the first inning followed by two
more in the second inning.
Don’t want to give you the suspense the Mariners ended up
losing in the 13th inning 11-9 on a Michael Brantley home run off of
reliever Matt Wisler.
Marco Gonzales starting for the Mariners gave up a run in the
second followed by two more in the third. It could have been worse. He gave up
two solo home runs in the sixth inning before leaving. This made the score
Seattle 7 Houston 5.
Austin Nola having a career game hit two home runs including
a solo home run in the seventh inning making it 8-5. Also, he hit a double in
the first inning. In total, he drove in five runs on the day.
Kyle Seager had two home runs on the day as well. He now has
twenty home runs on the season for the eighth straight season whether it
matters or not. During the regulation time, the Mariners scored eight runs in three innings so they couldn’t muster up
another run in the other six innings. Keeping Gonzales in and not scoring a run
in the six innings help the Mariners demise. At least on the positive note at
least they aren’t in the pennant race.
The Mariners did have a chance to win in the 12th
inning scoring a run however the Astros tied it in the bottom of the 12th.
Now the Astros are 13-1 against the Mariners this season. On
the season they have a record of 58-83. This means taking the series against
the Astros off the books the record is 57-70. Not great but looks better
anyway. You look at the record if the Mariners would win their remaining 21
games on the season they still have a losing record. I am sure none of us are
surprised by the record we were told they were retooling at the beginning of
the season.
The question now can the Mariners beat the Astros in any of
the three remaining games on this four-game series. We will see.
