It has been a while since the Mariners have come from behind
to beat another team; it happened on Tuesday night against the Cincinnati Reds.
It wasn’t one of those great come from behind wins but we
should take it. The Red’s took the lead first in the 2nd inning when
centerfielder Phillip Ervin hit a triple to right field where rookie Kyle Lewis
missed played the ball then followed by a single to score Ervin. We have to
excuse Lewis because it was his first game playing in right field after
all. Lewis made up for it in the fifth
inning hitting his first career hit which turned out to be a home run tying the
game.
The Mariners took the lead in the sixth inning when Dylan
Moore hit his eighth home run of the season. The Reds took the lead again in
the seventh inning when Brian O’Grady pinch-hit with a two-run homer making it
3-2 with the Reds leading. Kyle Seager though spoiled it for the Reds by
hitting a two-run homer himself in the 8th inning giving the
Mariners the win 4-3.
Justus Sheffield had another good outing starting the game
for the Mariners. He had a quality start going six innings giving up seven
hits, one run, walking three and striking out four. Look forward to his next
outing.
Dan Altavilla recorded the win as the third reliever in the
game going one inning giving up no hits or run while walking one and striking
out one. Anthony Bass pitched the ninth inning getting all three of the batters
out without surrendering a hit or a walk; he recorded his third save on the
season.
Besides Kyle Lewis making his major league debut, Donnie
Walton did too coming into the game late at shortstop. The Mariners also
brought up pitchers Justin Dunn and Art Warren from double-A Arkansas. Dunn may make his debut on Thursday while
Warren coming out of the bullpen could see action on Wednesday.
The Mariners are expecting JP Crawford back soon and we may
see Domingo Santana before the season is over as well. Go M’s.
