Mariners Lose In Chicago

Justus Sheffield pitched a good game in his third start for the Mariners on Monday night. He went five innings giving up five hits but no one while walking two and striking out seven. The Mariners were leading 1-0 at his departure.

The bullpen collapsed when they came in with the slim lead. Some of it was tough luck. The Cubs were able to load the bases in the seventh inning, and then a ball hit by left-fielder Kyle Schwarber hit the first base bag went over the head of the first baseman Austin Nola which gave the Cubs three runs. The Cubs scored all five of their runs in the seventh inning. Final score Chicago 5 Seattle 1.

Felix Hernandez takes on Jon Lester in the second and final game of this series on Tuesday night. The Mariners than go back to Texas and take on the Houston Astros for five games.

September will be important to see what players the team will bring back in spring training more than wins and losses although wins would be nice.

Wednesday night the Arkansas Travelers the Mariners double-A team will begin the playoffs against Tulsa.  Several of the players will be brought up to Seattle when their season is over. Wednesday night’s game will be broadcasted on Roots Sports beginning at 5 pm Pacific Time. It will be good to see these prospects that are part of the Mariners future.

In football, the Seattle Seahawks resigned quarterback Geno Smith and wide receiver Jeron Brown.  Tight end Ed Dickson was put on the injured reserve list. There is a good chance tight end Jacob Hollister will be added to the roster at some point since the Seahawks have only two active tight ends. Hollister is currently on the practice squad.

The Seahawks made a few other moves like bringing back fullback Nick Bellore and releasing linebacker Austin Calitro. The Seahawks may make more addition moves before Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals. Go Hawks!
