Kikuchi Shuts Out Astros

Seattle Mariners finally beat the Astros
Thursday afternoon to come home with
a 3-5 record on the road and ending a
four game losing streak.

Yusei Kikuchi pitched an outstanding
game going seven innings giving up
a hit in the seventh inning with one
out. He had two walks on the day
and pitched two batters above the
minimum.

Kikuchi has he arrived now. If so the
Mariners will see some good things
coming out this year.

News came out before the game that
Marco Gonzales is going on the
injured list. He likely will miss a
couple starts. He has a strain on his
left arm. Not known whether the
Mariners will add a pitcher to the
rotation or go to a five-man rotation.
This is now two pitchers on the injured
list not counting James Paxton who
this week had Tommy John surgery
and will be out for the season.

Offensively Taylor Trammell hit a
home run in the third inning for the
only score of the game. It was the
only run in the game by either side.
Trammell caught the final out of the
game running in to field from center
field.

Kyle Lewis didn't play in the game or did
Mitch Haniger. Both are expected to play
Friday night against the LA Angels.

Sam Haggerty again was the lead off hitter
with Haniger out of the lineup. The question
will he stay there tomorrow when Haniger
is back possibly moving him down to third
or fourth in the lineup.

The Mariners moved JP Crawford up to the
sixth spot. He had one of the four hits the
Mariners had on the day. The other two hits
was a double by Kyle Seager who moved to
the second spot in the order and Ty France
who hit behind in the third spot with a single.

Chris Flexen who pitched well in his last
outing will start on Friday against the Angels
followed by Ljay Newsome on Saturday.
Justus Sheffield will start on Sunday to
finish the Angel series off.

The NFL draft has started with the first
round Thursday night. The Seahawks
should have their first pick Friday night
in the second round.

Division rival San Francisco took quarterback
Trey Lance out of North Dakota State. The
first pick out of the Pac-12 was Penei Sewell
offensive lineman from Oregon with the seventh
pick by the Detroit Lions.

Alijah Vera-Tucker guard from USC was the
second Pac-12 player taken by the New York
Jets with the 14th overall pick. They are the
only picks in the Pac-12 so far. Currently
the 23rd pick is on the clock.
